It's easy to tell that I'm a pirate. Sailing the seas on my special ship. Well, our special ship. My grandfather is the best pirate I know. He sailed this ship before I was even born, and I'm pretty amazed. Now, my grandfather is the Captain James Hook. You know, the one evil captain trying to kill Peter Pan. But to be honest, Peter is actually one of my best friends, though, grandpa doesn't know. I'm good at keeping secrets. It's actually fun to keep them. It's like a little challenge for you.
Having Captain Hook as my grandfather may sound like I'm pretty lucky. Well, that's not entirely true. Grandpa sometimes finds out I didn't do my job the right way and I would get in trouble. He'd make me stand on the plank and look down. Being up so high gave me a fear of heights, and I hate it. Sometimes grandpa would make me stand for at least 30 minutes.
Then, every other day, grandpa would make me fight the crew. He considered it training, but the crew members always hurt me every battle. The least grandpa would do is make me fight with Smee. He's practically a marshmellow wearing clothes. That's why I sometimes like to be around him. But when I'm mad, no one likes to be in my way, unless they want to fight.
So, the name's Abigale Hook. The crew call me Abby. Except my grandfather. A little backstory, grandpa took me away from my abusive parents when I was four or five. I was raised by pirates, went on "epic" journeys, found treasure every now and then, and I made friends with Peter Pan and some of the Lost Boys. When I mean some, only a fraction of them like me. The other Lost Boys don't trust me because I'm, of course, a pirate. They say adults are pirates, and they kill pirates. Well, not this gal!
So, today is what, Tuesday? Great. Today is the day that I have the most boring job ever. Yes, even the granddaughter of the captain has jobs to do. My job today? Loading the canons. Fantastic. Absolutley wonderful.
"Ah, Abby! You're awake! Ready to do your job?" Smee walks in. "You know what to do, right?"
"Yes, I do," I say in a boring tone.
"Is something wrong, Abby? You seem down today."
"Oh, I'm absolutley fantastic. It's just that I only have the most boring job a pirate could ever have," I mope.
"Come now, Abby. It's just loading the canons! Very simple!" Smee tried to cheer me up.
"That's the point! It's so simple! I want to do something exciting and thrilling, like finding treasure, or fighting other pirates! Not loading canons and watch you guys have all the fun."
"Do you think being captain of a ship is fun?" I hear grandpa's voice and him stepping down the stairs to the lower level where the crew slept. "Or perhaps being a monkey's uncle?" Once grandpa got to the floor, I could see the rest of him. His red hat matching his red coat was beautiful. His black leather boots made a little stomping noise every time he stepped. But what really grabbed my attention was his sword. The sharp, iron sword was the thing I wanted for so long. The thing I needed.
"Maybe if you let me be captain for a day I could see for myself," I joked.
"Not until I die, which will be a while," grandpa smiled at me. "Now, go do your job so you get the rest of the day off."
"Ah, man!" I pout, dragging myself up the stairs.
"Stubborn one, she is," Smee said.
"I heard that!" I yell back.
