"The more we look, the less we see."

Sam blindly stepped on a sharp twig and yelled softly in pain. He tried to get up then grew immobile, staggered. There stood Ryan before him. The man was panting from the heated ran and his fear heightened when the Prince leaned against a tall tree in a relaxed posture, there was no sign of even sweat on his body.
“What did ye hear, Sam?” Ryan questioned, his voice coming out in a low roar and Sam shrunk further unto the ground.
“Answer me!”
Sam who could fight a boar without trace of fear found himself shaking to his very core. His fright took a drastic turn when he saw Ryan’s eyes changed and his hands_ clawed hands clutch at his collar. “I…I saw, I saw nothing, my Prince.” He stammered.
Ryan dragged him to his feet with his one hand which was still holding unto his collar. “Answer me!” He bellowed, his eyes fixed on Sam’s own.
Suddenly something coursed within Sam and his eyes seem to melt. “Aye, I will answer.” Sam said obediently but in a lost voice. “Ye were saying ye could run and even drink people’s blood, my Prince.” He answered.
Ryan swiftly let go off him and the latter fell down with a huge thud. He frowned, trying to make sense out of what just happened.
He can make people do want he want them to do? He even_
“Tis getting dark and the others are not in sight. Should I go and look for them, my Prince? Sam’s odd voice interrupted his thoughts.
Ryan blinked then bends over Sam who flinched from his touch. But he still fears me; Ryan realized then held his weary gaze, reading his thoughts. Ryan tensed as he felt his body respond to the guard’s beating heart then shrugged of the now familiar yearning. “Ye wouldnae say anything to anyone Sam. He finally said to the guard who simply stared at him. Ye wouldnae recall any of this.”
Sam felt the same something course through his body. “Aye, my Prince, I wouldnae repeat this to anyone.” He answered, nodding.
Ryan’s eyes widened. “Ye and the Prince were talking about the search, that’s all ye are to say.” He went on and Sam again nodded. Why not end this search by making up_ “Ye and the Prince found a trail of blood which led us to a waterfall uphill. There we saw a wounded wildcat… Ryan paused. Ye had been the one that shot at it, thinking twas a fox about to steal a fowl. As we neared the wildcat, it started then tried to run but lost balance and fell into the fall.” Ryan completed, still holding the guard’s gaze. “Tis what happened and all ye’ll say to everyone, Sam.” He stood up.
“Aye, my Prince, we found the cat, it panicked and fell into the yonder fall.” Sam restated, trying to get up. “Oouch, think I’m hurt, my Prince.”
Ryan stiffened, his nose explicitly filling his mind with Sam’s blood while his ears provided him with sounds of the guard’s pounding hear. He struggled with self-control and would have pounced on Sam if the air had not become crowded with the voices of the other hunters. Ryan sighed in relief and sank unto the floor, lying on his back.
“O there ye are, my Prince_ and ye too, Sam.” One of the hunters, a much older man with dark long hair came towards the two, closely followed by the others.
“Tis a shame, but we couldnae find the wildcat.” Dan announced. Ryan was still silent, he noted. “Why, are ye tired, my Prince?”
Ryan simply shrugged, closing his eyes. Sam was grinning broadly despite his hurting foot.
“What’s making ye so happy when the cat’s still somewhere?” Dan snapped then frowned, looking about him. There were amidst a shelter of tall trees. “No way, ye found it?”
“Aye Dan, the Prince and I found the cat.” Sam responded gaily.
The others gathered around them.
“How? Where?” Jamie queried.
Sam shrugged and pointed at his food. “Tend to my foot first then I tell.”
The hunters mumbled and Jamie grimly began to tend to Sam’s bleeding foot. “Pray, tell as I tend to ye.”
Sam nodded and recounted the story Prince Ryan had woven for him. The listeners nodded then frowned at the end of the tale.
Ryan listened silently though what he largely heard was their hearts pumping blood throughout their bodies. They will have to leave soon but he had to delay it awhile. The Sun was now setting yet it still burns his skin. Ryan shifted as two rays of sunlight shone his way followed by a strong breeze. He really cannae forever dodge the Sun, there has to be something_
“My Prince?”
“Hmmm?” Ryan jerked up to see many pairs of eyes on him. “What now?”
“Tis sundown and twill be dark soon, we have to set off for the Castle, my Prince.” Dan explained.
“Aye, aye, we have to.” Ryan got up, shielded his sword and walked ahead, the others followed closely. Ryan wished they would walk ahead of him, his mind was frenzy. Let’s think of something, someone… a woman perchance. He thought to himself. Sheena, aye, bonny Sheena would do. Ryan smiled then swiftly grimaced, he could not even make out the face of Sheena. All he could see were images of beating hearts. Another woman… not Maggie nay not her then… Lwanna!
Suddenly, his mind cleared, his ears faintly registering the beating hearts. Ryan was instantly filled with fury. Upon all the women he’s known and being with_ why must it be her? Damn ye, Lwanna! He almost cursed aloud.
