The Fair

Genesis sighed in defeat and stared out of her window. I felt bad, but a lot has been going on lately.

We finally arrived at the fair and we got out of the car. I took out my phone and looked up the nearest library. Three miles from here. Oh well, I'm willing to walk. I walked left and started off on my journey. "Where are you going? The fair is over here!," Genesis beamed at me. I sighed and rolled my eyes. "Yay," I sarcastically said. Konner and Genesis smiled awkwardly and look down at the ground. "Sorry there was something in my throat," I lied. Konner nodded and headed into the fair. "Come on Aria! Get your act together! They're doing this as a nice, kind gesture to welcome us into the neighborhood." I breathed in and out and followed Konner and Genesis. Once I'm mad about something, it takes a few hours to a day for me to forget about that.

"How about we go on a roller coaster first?," Genesis asked us. I agreed and so did Konner. I notice that he doesn't say much. Then again I only known him for a few hours. He might be shy.

I'm glad we went on that ride! It was just the thing to get my mind off of this morning. I felt open to do more things now. "Wanna go do that dunk tank thing?," I asked them. "YEAH THAT'S MY FAVORITE!," Genesis said excitedly. "I don't know. I think we should get on another roller coaster," Konner finally said. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a girl silently crying and reading a book. I looked away and went to the dunk tank but I can't leave her like that. Old me wouldn't of cared. I use to just shrug it off and walk away. I changed since the incident. "Wait! Go on without me. Just give me a few minutes," I told them.

I headed over to where she was at. Konner and Genesis exchanged a glance at each other. They decided to follow me. The girl looked up at me. She looked like she was about to cry harder because she saw me. She had red hair and light brown eyes. She also had freckles and thick glasses (but not too thick). Her hair was in two braids. "Hi," I said. Genesis and Konner waved. The girl looked at them both and started to get up. Konner shrugged and went to play the hoops game. "No! Wait," I said to her. "What?," she snapped as tears welled in her eyes. I opened my mouth to snap back but I swallowed what I was about to say. She could be going through something major. Why would I make her day any worse?

I tried again. "Hi, I'm Aria and this is Genesis," I said in my friendliest voice. She looks down at the ground. "I'm Willow," she said while not making eye contact. "And I know Genesis," she said as her eyes dart to Genesis piercing right through her. Her gaze made Genesis squirm a little bit. "Well... How about you hang with us?," I offered. Genesis looks at me wide-eyed. I shoot her a confused look. Willow sniffles and shakes her head no. "Why not? This is a fair. You should enjoy it," I said to her jokingly. She gave me a look of disgust. "I don't need you telling me what I should or shouldn't do! It's bad enough..," Willow trailed off. I raised my eyebrow hoping she would finish her sentence. "Nothing! Just Forget It!," she said as she got up. She started crying again and ran away. I couldn't stop feeling like I could of done something to help.

"Come on! There's so much to see!," Genesis said as she shrugged and walked away. I took one last look at Willow and followed Genesis. "You seemed like you didn't want her hanging out with us back there," I said to Genesis. Genesis looked at the ground. "Oh I did.. But some people likes being left alone while they are sad. She's one of those people." Genesis almost sounded believable. "Why do I feel like your lying to me," I ask her. She turns around to face me. "I'm not lying. And even if I was, how would you know? You DON'T know me just like I don't know you!" She runs to catch up with Konner leaving me behind. I guess I was probably being a little paranoid but I can't help but feel like something happened between Willow and Genesis. But she's right. I don't know her just like I don't know her story.

I walk alone for a few minutes being left with my thoughts. I think about everything that has happened so far this year. My phone rings snapping me out of my horrible flash backs and negative thoughts. I look at the caller ID. It's a number I don't recognize. I decide to answer anyway. It could probably be my dad finally getting in contact with me after all these years! I still had his number from when he first left us but every time I call it, I don't get an answer. Maybe he changed his number. "Hello," I said into the phone hoping to hear my dad's voice again. "YOU DESERVE TO BE IN HERE WITH US BUT YOUR NOT! SOON THEY ARE GONNA FIND OUT THAT YOU DID WAY MORE THAN ANY OF US COMBINED! I'M NO SNITCH BUT WHEN THE POLICE COME ASKING FOR YOU I'M GONNA RA-" I end the call. I look at my phone with horror and once again tears filling my eyes. It was my ex-boyfriend, Todd. I think about to that horrible night with the crew. That night was filled with drugs, alcohol, stealing and m-. "Hey Aria are you gonna tag behind us all day or are you going to actually walk with us?" It was Konner snapping me out of my thoughts. I'm glad he did because one more flash back and I would of been a wreck. Tears were rolling from my eyes and I pretended like I was rubbing them. "Yeah, I'm coming," I called after them.

"Are you okay," Genesis asked me when I finally caught up to them. I sniffed. "Yeah! Just allergies," I lied. Konner gave me a smile then we proceeded to another roller coaster.

A few hours passed and it is 9:45 P.M. The fair is going to close at ten so we started leaving. I'm not gonna lie. I actually had fun today. That's rare nowadays. I'm not gonna get used to it. I DEFINITELY don't want to get too close with Konner and Genesis. They seem like nice people. But I barely know them. For all I know they could be just like my old friends back in Florida, just putting up an act first. Maybe I'm over thinking it a bit. But I refuse to let my guard down. 45 minutes later we're back home. Mom thanked Mrs. Snow, Genesis, and Konner for hanging out with us. I thanked them too. We got out the car and so did they and headed into our houses. I take a deep breath before going inside. Once inside my mother asked me how did I enjoy the fair. I told her it was good. "You didn't smoke any weed or drink with your friends did you," she asked. I was starting to get annoyed because she already know I stopped doing that a long time ago and yet she proceeds to ask. "No," I say with a little too much irritation. "Oh, so Konner and Genesis doesn't do that," she asked. I sighed because I didn't feel like arguing. On my way to the stairs a cold gust of wind hit my mom and I. She shivered and so did I. "On your way upstairs can you turn on the heat? The temperature must've dropped outside," my mother asked. I sighed, turned on the heat, and walked upstairs to my room. This was going to be a long night.
