Leaving?

"Mum? Dad? Ashton? I'm homeee!" Nobody can make this attitude change. I am way too happy for my own good. We're having a pizza party this Friday and then it's easter break. We all know what that means... my birthday and CHOCOLATE!!! Today we had a lot of free time and we watched movies in class. IKR, what else could we ask for. Tomorrow's Thursday and I have roller skating in the afternoon.

"Yeah sweetheart, we're all home. What's got you all excited?" Mum asks.

Dad and Ashton appear right behind her.

I tell them why I'm so happy and dad gives me a small smile.

"Can we talk?" Dad asks, almost inaudible. I look at Ashton to see if he knows what this is about, and obviously, he doesn't. So I nod and we go to the living room. I sit on the couch with Ashton beside me and my patents sit on the opposite side.

"So..." I saw, the big smile on my face not fading once. "What are we going to talk about?" I ask cheerily. I know it can't be The Talk because Ashton's here, so I'm kind if relieved that I'm not having that awkward conversation again.

Dad and mum look at each other for what seems like forever and finally mum speaks first.

"How do you like living in Colombia?" She asks us.

Ashton shrugs. I answer honestly that I love it. I love my friends and my school here is great and the apartment is cozy and big, etc. Conclusion: I love it here. I mean, I didn't think I would like it that much after Norway but, four years later, I see that I was terribly wrong.

Dad looks a little bit sad with my answer. But he speaks anyway. "Would you like to live in Ecuador, close to the family?" He asks.

"If I can take my school and friends with me, I'm in." I joke.

Mum shakes her head slowly.

Wait what?

It's my turn to shake my head. I hope that I assumed wrong. "Not. Happening." I state.

By the look on Ashton's face, he doesn't get it.

Well, he is only eight, I didn't expect him to. I nudge his elbow lightly and he turns to look at me. I look right back at him with wide eyes and he understands.

"No." He states.

"O. K, I get that you might not like the idea of leaving, but we could go to Ecuador where the rest of the family is. We could live even closer to Cuenca and you can make friends that will really last forever." Dad tries to convince us.

It does sound appealing to have friends that will last for a lifetime, but what if we have a major fall out. Then they were supposed to last forever and they wont.

"Next week is easter holiday." Ash cheers with me when mum says that. "We will be celebrating your birthday." Mum turns to me and I smile. "And after that, we are going to Ecuador." My smile drops. No. That's too fast.

"No, no, not for good." I let out a deep breath. "We are just going to check out some schools and some houses to see if we like it there. I'm telling you this with a few days anticipation so that you can study for the admission tests that you will have to take." We groan.

My friends will have to be notified immediately. I smile sadly thinking about how to tell my friends.

"Please don't tell your friends yet because nothing is for sure." Mum comments as if she read my mind. This makes me a little mad but also relieved... they said it wasn't for sure yet.
