I don't think my parents could have doomed me more than the way they did. My mom said when I came out of her and she saw those big blue- oh excuse me, Aqua- eyes, she couldn't help but name me Aqua - Marie. Adding the Marie was just icing on the 'let's make your life hell' cake.
I mean imagine being in your third grade class and- wait, I know you aren't thinking about it. I'll wait, go on. You're sitting in your brightly lit, booger infested classroom working on a worksheet about plants. Than by a stroke of luck the alarm rings signaling recess. You cheer with everyone else and run out of the classroom with your short legs.
May I add, running alone.
When you get outside you sit under your favorite tree and and pick at grass. Yup, that's how much of a loner I was. I picked grass for fun. Than the sun is suddenly covered and you look up to none other than Nia Joy. Now, don't let her last name fool you people. She is not a joy, she is anything but. She is as diabolical as a third grader can be.
I know you're thinking now of that someone in your life. That someone that made your elementary experience brutal. As we wait for the story to continue why don't you imagine that person falling off a cliff...
Mhm... that was nice, okay moving on.
So, Nia had managed to get over half the third grade population under my tree. At my little sacred tree. Nia had popped her hip, placing her hands there.
"Ye... yes?" I stammered being the socially awkward girl that I am.
"Aqua, you're a terrible human being." She said proudly like she had just made the discovery of the century.
"What?"
"What kind of person steals eyes?" By now I was really confused.
"What?"
"Those eyes." She said sticking her finger at me. "Those aren't yours. You're way too ugly to have such pretty eyes. You must have stolen them." I couldn't decide if I should be offended or proud.
"Um..."
"You're just so desperate for friends that you pull a stunt like this. It's truly sad."
"Nia, I didn't pull a stunt. I've had these my whole life."
She glared at me with venom. "It's still not right. I can't be seen with someone like you." And with that Nia flipped her blond hair and swaggered away. If Nia Joy declares someone a terrible person, than they are. There's no dispute. That's why the rest of the third grade class followed after her, leaving me alone with my little tree.
Oh, and this other girl. She was black and had thick, long braids trailing down her back. She was lean but looked torn between following Nia or staying with me.
"What?" I snapped at her. I was upset and wanted to cry but not in front of someone. Her eyes had popped and she had ran away. I didn't bother feeling bad for her because I was too busy feeling bad for myself.
