Believe Me

James watched his feet as they carried him down the street. His mind worked to swiftly formulate how to begin his explanation.

Soon enough his gaze drifted to the pair of feet walking next to him, and he followed the body up to it's owner, who was side eyeing him gently with a soft, closed smile.

James took a deep breath.

"Okay. So I'm assuming what you saw was this:

Thomas and I were in his car. He had just showed up out of the blue, insisting we had a little chat."

He looked to Aaron to see he still had his calm attention.

"In hindsight," James continued, chewing his bottom lip and furrowing his eyebrows. "It was probably Hercules who tipped his hat."

"Pardon?" Aaron inquired.

"I don't know. But thinking back, Hercules acted like something was off about me. Like- like I was acting weird. Than BAM- Thomas shows up."

"Uh huh." the other replied politely, to express his attention.

"So Thomas drags me away from my fantastic breakfast-"

Aaron chuckled quietly, looking at James with a vaguely fond look.

"And we went to his car to talk- because that's what friends do when they hear their friend has been acting stranger than usual- they talk."

Aaron laughed just a little and stopped pulling open a door. James didn't even realize they reached Sam's diner.

"I like how you said 'stranger than usual.'" Aaron snickered as James walked past him into the building with a playful roll of his eyes.

"So anyway- can we get the usual Sam?" James interrupted himself. Sam nodded and waved, returning to his work. "Anyway, Thomas is trying to give me advice in the car. Takes my hands and throws out this dumb, dramatic, Shakespearean love confession.

Like joking around about it would help me at all-" James added with a scoff.

Aaron's mood dropped a little- James could tell this time it was nerves- anticipation.

"Love confession?...What kind of advice did you need?"

James contemplated his choices. He could just tell Aaron the truth. He had wanted to in the library, but now- actually sitting across from him he found himself freezing up.

He took a long breath and looked back at Aaron who was anticipating James's answer.

"Aaron." James, started his heart pounding.

"...yeah..?" Aaron coaxed when James failed to keep talking.

"I got your sodas and bread sticks guys, sorry about the wait."

James threw him a glance, and was actually rather relieved for the extra few seconds of procrastination. Aaron seemed a little less pleased.

Each of them muttered 'Thanks Sam' before eventually they had to look at each other again.

When James looked up, he found that Aaron never took his eyes off him.

"I.. I needed help."

Aaron nodded slowly, eyes still on James, knowing there was more to it. He always knew there was more.

"I. Needed help because..."

James hesitated. He turned his gaze down to the breadsticks between them.

"......James?"

"Go out with me?" The shorter of the two finally blurted out.

Aaron was silent for a few seconds, processing what james had said. Then, he seemed to let out a relieved and excited sigh.

He quickly regained composure, a small smile taking his face.

"I thought you'd never ask." Aaron soothed, reaching across the table to lightly rest his hand on James's.

James smirked in relief and studied Aaron's face. That smile- it had always made him feel comfortable. It was safe, caring.

It was different than the smile he used for any other occasion, though that fact didn't lessen  that other, public smile.

He smiled so often, but james could do with seeing that smile everyday.

"You should smile more." James echoed Aaron's previous words to him with a chuckle.

Aaron perked an eyebrow, feign contemplating it with a dramatic up-turn of his eyes.

"Well with you by my side, I'm sure that won't be so hard to do."

Authors note.
Heyy what's up???
Hope you guys liked the story! It was fun (and difficult) to write but it's finally done!

I'm sorry it's not exactly my best work- oneshots are a lot easier for me to write but i try my best and im working on it!

For those of you who haven't seen it yet and are interested in jamilton, I have a book called "we could be enough: a jamilton story."
(It is unrelated to this story)

For those of you who have read that one and want some washette, keep an eye out for part two to that book. It follows a washette story.

It'll be called "Someday: A Washette Story"

The next book I start will either be that washette one
(most likely)

or...

another jamilton book
(Whole different story it would have no relation to any existing ones.)

It will most likely depend on which one I'm having an easier time putting into writing, but you guys can voice your opinion if you want, though in the end, it'll mostly be based on whichever I'm doing better with.
Whatever the case, keep an eye out for new books if you're interested!

Love ya!
