The rustling of trees echoed around me, there branches scratching and clawing at my skin but the pain was nothing compared to what my parents had done to me just minutes before. They weren't always abusive, they used to be kind and loving parents; they were involved with the school board, sponsored sports teams, donated to food banks but that all changed when I turned ten.

My younger brother and I were fighting in the back seat over a video game so my dad, who was driving, turned around and began yelling and unnoticeably, began to swerve into the other lane. After that everything went dark.

I had woken up in the hospital with twelve stitches along my collarbone as well as multiple bruises on my face and body. The entire ride home neither my mom or dad would even look at me.I begged for them to just say something, anything. As soon as the door closed behind me when we got home, I felt the immediate impact on my left shoulder burn. It was my father, he seemed to be filled to the rim with boiling anger. Hit after hit he threw at me, I was defenceless already and there was almost no point in fighting back with my body hurting just to move.

Blood was everywhere, on me, on the floor, and on my fathers hands. And my mothers grin... it was blinding. Painful. It had vengence laced with in it. It was the last thing I saw before everything went black.

The shadow of moonlight began to slip away behind the clouds making night become a dark blanket. And the dark is what terrifies me most. You can't see anything but others can; i suddenly became aware of movement around me. I felt that I was being watched, stalked. I continued to run even though I couldn't see at all. Through my tears or the darkness.

My foot got caught on something and I came crashing down, landing with my face among the dirt and leaves.

"You alright there?", said a strangly old fashioned voice.

I lifted my head and began to sit up straight to look at the face of the person speaking to me. I couldn't see much but i made out the outline of a man? Seventeen to nineteen, judging by the hight...I wasn't sure. He seemed eredesently stange but also familiar. Familiar because I felt like I had meet him before but stange at the same time because I couldn't quite put my finger on how I knew him. And his eyes. His eyes were a grey silver, almost like aluminume but they had a tint of green in them. Not the bright sunny skys and green fields that you thinking but more of a faded hiding green that you see in a storm in the middle of fall where the clouds are endlessly concaving around you and you look among the trees and you see one small almost unoticeable leaf still hanging on, trying not to be forgotten. Thats what his eyes reminded me of, a grey fall storm.

"I asked if you were alright?", he asked again; bringing me out of my "zone".

"Yeah, sorry."

"It's alright. Here. Let me help you up.", he gave out his hand.

"Thanks.", I mumbled as I accepted the help.

I could see now that he was around my age...seventeen, eighteen at most? I wasn't sure. He was wearing all black, from his leather jacket to his laced up boots. He had dark brown hair that dusted over his eyes a bit. His face however now held a smirk. Did he think that I was checking him out? Oh God he totally did!

"Who are you? What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?", I asked.

"What am I doing out here in the middle of the night? I could say the same thing to you Sweetheart.", he cocked an eyebrow.

"That wasn't the only question I asked.", I stated.

"Chase. Chase Argent."

"Argent. Doesn't that mean silver in French?", I asked.

"Only one of us is an expert at french here and it isn't me, Sweetheart."

There it was with the stupid nickname again, I was already beginning to hate this guy.

"Isabelle."

"Isabelle. Well then your last name must me Sweetheart.", he said again with a smirk.

"Clare. Isabelle Clare.", I snapped.

"Well Miss Clare, what brings you out here?", he asked.

It was moments like these that I was thankful for my longsleves and hoodies.

"That's really none of your buisness.", I mumbled.

"Alright. Then can I take a guess at it? At what you want with your life?"

"At what? Mysterious stranger that just happens to know all the answers in my life.", I said with a half laugh.

"You want what everybody wants. You want an adventure, love, danger, passion. You want it all. You want people to see you for who you really are and not just the illusion you give off. You want, just for one simple moment, not to feel...pain. For once you just want to be happy.", he looked back up at me, carefully, ready for the impact of a slap.

"Umm, I should really be getting back home.", I didn't know what else to say.

Before I could even turn around, Chase was infront of me. He grabbed hold of my wrist, but not too hard. He very softly moved my hair from covering my ear and brought his lips to it.

"You won't be alone forever Isabelle. I promise you."
