Birthday Girl
12 years old now
Staring in the mirror
Tear streaked cheeks
Chest too flat
The rest of her too big
at least in her eyes
She sees a girl in the mirror
Skinny as can be
That girl was Ana
She said listen to me
"Don't you see you could look like me
You could be skinny, skinny as can be
Just listen to me"
Birthday girl
13 years old now
Staring in the mirror
Blood flowing from her wrists
Still not satisfied
Fatter than her friends
At least that's what she thought
She sees a girl in the mirror
A skinny little thing
Her name was Mia
She said listen to me
"Ana is good I'm her friend but with me whenever you eat you'll still be small just listen to me"
Birthday girl
14 years old now
She's changed so much but
Tears still streak her cheeks
Blood still flows from her wrists
A cigarette hanging from
Scarlet lips
She sees a girl in the mirror
And that girl is her
Her thigh gap
Her hip bones
Her collar bones
She counts her ribs
Ana and Mia smile
"You're gorgeous now"
Skip some years
Birthday girl
17 years old now
Tears
Blood
Scarlet lips
Cigarettes lit
She sees a girl in the mirror
Broken
Her name is Sue
You know Ana
You know Mia
You became their friends
And now you're hurting
I can help
All of this can end
Sue gave her some pills
Vodka to wash them down
The birthday girl took them
And then she fell down
Birthday girl
Still 17
She can never grow up
Its what she wanted all along.
