Collage. It was the start of a new life, a new freedom, a new chance. I left the constant looks of sorrow and sympathy at home. Back home, I wasn't known as the girl that won an award, the girl with cool hair, or the girl that could sing, I was known as 'the freak with a brother that killed himself.'
I felt a squeeze on my leg that pulled me out of my train of thought.
"You don't have to do this if you don't want to, you know" my mom said, her hand still resting on my lap. I could see the worry in her eye.
"I'm fine" I reinsured her with a smile. I didn't really want to go, but it made her happy so I at least had to try.
"Well good, because we're here!" Her voice got all high pitch out of excitement. She returned her hand back to the staring wheel as she parked her car.
We both got out and she walked over to me.
"Listen, I am so sorry I can't help you, this was the only time Dr.Renolds was available for an appointment and I really want to help-"
"Mom, don't worry, you have to drop my clothes tomorrow so I'll see you then, and I'll be fine" I cut her off and pulled her in to a hug. I let go and she covered a face as a tear dripped down her cheek.
"Oh, my baby is going to collage" she smiled through her tears.
"Mooom" I rolled my eyes "Don't you have a doctor's appointment to go to?"
"Already trying to get rid of me! I see how it is" We both laughed.
With my backpack over my shoulders, I balanced the 2 boxes with my stuff on my hands. Luckly, Mom was coming by with my clothes, so I didn't have too many boxes.
"Oh come on! I have to help you! You're never going to find your room!" She tried to grab a box from me but i pulled it away.
"Mom. Go. I'm fine" I promised her. The truth was, I really could use her help, and I could barely see where I was going. not to mention, she was the only one that knew how to calm me down when I was having an anxiety attack.
"Fine. I'll see you later, and i'll bring all your clothes." We exchanged our good byes and she finally drove away.
In front of the College building, there was a small field that was crowded with people. Oh god, that was a lot of people. I started to walk toward the school through the field, but I kept bumping into people because of my lack of vision.
I could feel my heart beating faster and my breathing shorten. Just breathe. In. Out. In. Out. I needed to calm down. I didn't need a bad reputation on the first day. Ok, I'll be fine, just keep walking, you're almost there just a couple-
THUD something hit my box, making me lose my balance. It all happened so fast. The box on the top down slipped off first, and my second box followed. I tried to keep myself on my feet but my legs basically gave out. I crumbled to the ground and put my hands out to try and stop me. As my head hit the ground, I felt something splash on my side. Confused and wet, I tried to piece together what had just happened.
"Oh shit!" I heard a voice say as it came closer to me. I looked up to see a boy with straight, blonde hair and blue eyes. "Oh my god, i am so sorry" He covered mouth.
I pushed myself off the ground, still in a daze. The boy bent down and picked up the Frisbee that hit me
"Damnn Luke, watch where your throwing that thing!" Two more boys walked over, one with Black hair and the other one with pink.
"I am so sorry for that!" The boy, who they called Luke, apologized again with wide eyes.
"Yeah, it's not his fault he's the worst frisbee player" The guy with black hair said.
"At least I can throw the frisbee!" Luke countered
"What are you guys, an old couple?" The other blonde said as Luke wrinkled his nose. The guy with black hair wrapped his arm around Luke's neck and rested his head on his neck
"Ooh, I love you Lukey" The guy with black hair said. I laughed at this and put my hand on my mouth to cover it up, but it was already to late for me to notice. There was mud all down my side and on my hands, now on my mouth.
"Fuck" I whispered under my breath. The 3 boys looked at me and laughed. Oh no, they were already making fun of me. I wiped what I could of the mud off into my jacket, but my jacket was all muddy so it didn't help my situation.
That made them laugh even harder. I felt tears threatening my eyes so I looked down and started to pick up my things. I think they noticed me because they stopped laughing and the pink haired guy looked at me and said, "are you hurt? Did Luke hurt your?" He said concerned. Concern? What? They were just making fun of me and now they are concerned?
After we all caught our breath, they helped my pick up all my things that Luke made me drop. The 2 guys I don't know the name of each grabbed a box, and Luke insisted on taking my backpack because my back was all muddy, leaving me empty handed.
We made our way to the school, I got many dirty looks from other people because of my mud issue, but I tried my hardest to ignore them.
We walked down the halls until we found the room that the paper said was mine. I took a deep breath and pushed open my door..
"Oh god." I muttered. The first thing I saw was One Direction posters that covered half the room and one direction sheets on the bed. Hmmm... I wounder if my roomate, who was no where to be found, was a One Direction fan.
"Is it really that bad?" One of the boys asked behind me. "That's a lot of paper" The black haired guy said looking at the wall. They all set my things on my empty side of the room.
"I feel like you should try to out decorate her" Luke said to me.
"No need to murder 2 trees" The black haired guy yelled from across the room, still looking at the posters.
"Ooh.. I'm Luke, sorry about the Frisbee. This is Calum" He pointed over to the guy with black hair, and Calum waved back. "And this is Micheal" He said, but Micheal didn't seem to notice. "MICKEY" Luke yelled and ran over to tackle Micheal. They ended up fighting on the floor trying to get off of each other.
"I think he's cheating on you" I said to Calum and he pouted.
"LUCKEY, BABY, COME BACK!" Calum yelled before jumping on to Luke and Micheal. I basically fell to the floor from laughing so hard.
"You know, it's not that funny! Luke just broke up with me!" Calum said when he saw me laughing. I tried to stifle my laugh, but it just made me laugh even harder.
"I don't think any of us can take you seriously when you have mud all over your face" Mickey said trying not to laugh.
I took my still muddy hand and ruffled his hair, making it go from blonde to brown. His eyes grew wide with shock, and then a smile grew on his face.
"I'm going to get you back for that, you know. You're not going to know when, or where, or how" He said, backing up.
"I am sooooo scared" i rolled my eyes at him.
"You will be" He smiled.
"I think Luke is right, we are going to out decorate your room. I hope you have stuff because you walls are going to be covered" Calum said, the walls were really getting to him.
"What about the trees?" I joked.
"Ok. we are going to the mall and getting you posters" luke chimmed in in the back round."
Just then i realized something "But just a slight issue..... I don't have clothes..."
"Wait...who doesn't bring clothes to collage!" Calum looked confused. I explained to them that my mom was going to bring them later.
"Well, I think you will be just fine like that! You can be known as 'the girl in mud' " Luke joked
"Or 'the girl that doesn't have anything to wear because someone can't throw a Frisbee'" I said.
"IT'S NOT MY FAULT" Luke disagreed.
First day of collage and my old names where behind me. No longer the looser or freak, but Mud Girl. Maybe this place was good for me.
