A/N: First time writing fanfic and parts of this were written in a rush so I apologize for errors of any kind. This is a Camren fic with mentions of Shawmila, Camaustin (brief), and Laucy. Intended beginning of a series with a second part already in the works but readers will determine if a second part gets posted. G!P Lauren. Please do not read if you don't like G!P fics. Thanks.
The pitter patter of rain peppering the glass siding was all that could be heard throughout the Los Angeles apartment. The dark grey skies made a mighty appearance that day, followed by the torrential downpour accompanied by the occasional thunder and lightning. The storm was unprecedented but Camila actually welcomed the change from the sunshine and perfect skies endemic to Southern California.
Wrapping the remaining articles of clothing from the pile of belongings sprawling her bedroom floor, Camila tiptoed down the hardwood hallway to the laundry room to finish her first load of clothes. She was particularly careful as not to wake Lauren from her slumber, jumping slightly when one of her sweatshirts accidentally knocked a coaster from a nearby table. Cursing under her breath, she decided to leave it there until she loaded the rest of her clothing into the machine. A loud roar of thunder erupted causing Camila to gasp slightly as she exited the laundry room, retrieved the coaster and retreated to the tranquility of her bedroom. Lauren was apparently still asleep despite the turbulent weather occurring right outside their apartment; Dinah was visiting family in Santa Ana, Ally had left hours ago to reunite with a friend from high school and was presumable staying the night, and Normani finally decided to say yes to their neighbor, Lee, who had prodded the dark-skinned beauty ever since they moved in. Camila had decided to embrace her more introverted nature and remain home with the company of a used copy of the Garden of Last Days, to which she returned after closing her bedroom door.
She placed a candle on her nightstand and decided to read via candlelight. After a few minutes of handy work, Camila had a nice dim glow to her quaint and cozy room with banana scented candles peppered all throughout her room. A good book in hand, a peaceful atmosphere in place, and Lauren sleeping soundly in her own room, it didn't take long for Camila to become engrossed with the wonderful workings of Andre Dubus' talents.
An hour had passed though the storm raged on, intensifying even as the apartment seemed to tremble with each spark of lightning and bombastic roll of thunder. She was amazed that Lauren could sleep through such chaos. Setting her book aside, Camila returned to the laundry room to set her clothing in the dryer only to find a giant pool of water flowing from the washing machine. More water poured out the second Camila opened the door, soaking everything from her sandal-clad feet and fuzzy pajama bottoms to the bottom of her thin t-shirt.
"Fuck!" erupted from her mouth and her hand immediately came up to cover her mouth once she remembered that Lauren was still sleeping. It was then that she noticed just how wet her arms and hands were from the enormous splash of the water that was still meeting the concrete floor. It was going to be an enormous pain cleaning this up, not to mention the time it would take for her to dry her clothes. Huffing and cursing under her breath, Camila transferred her clothing from the washer to the dryer and proceeded to fetch the mop, doing what she could to absolve the puddle from in front of the washer.
She slowly walked back to her bedroom so as her slippery feet would not slide along the aged hardwood. Once again, she closed the door and languidly peeled her wet clothing from her body, each article reluctant to detach itself from her warm albeit slippery skin. With her wet pajamas now residing in the tub of her en suite bathroom, she roamed over to her reclining chair, next to which set a few of her candles and her used book. She thought about revisiting her chapter to pass the time until her laundry would be finished, but she suddenly thought of other ways to fil her time until she could put warm clothes on her body.
