A/N: Thank you for accompanying me along this wonderful journey. The fourth chapter is posted below; Camren (as always) and a bit/mentions of Laucy. A fifth chapter is already in the works and will hopefully be posted tonight or tomorrow (depending on the amount of caffeine in my apartment). I failed to proofread large portions of this chapter, so please forgive any errors. Again, anything in italics is intended as emphasis or character thoughts. I hope you enjoy!
A loud sob broke from Lucy's frame and she buried her face in her hands.
"Please let me go Lucy...Please."
Lauren's own sobs and cries accompanied those of the Colombian. The world came crashing down on both of them, but Lauren felt something in the pit of her stomach that was spreading throughout her body. She didn't know if she had the energy to discern and identify at present, but deep in the recesses of her mind she knew exactly what it was...
Freedom.
Lucy rose from her position on the bed to begin the painful process of re-packing her bag. Her fingers trembled as she practically threw her belongings into her suitcase. Consciously, she knew that she was tucking away physical items: shirts, dresses, bikinis, hair ties, and lingerie; but subconsciously, she was trudging away the final components of their relationship, each item a mere objective representation of every moment she shared with the woman behind her. As each segment was removed from the wondrous oak dresser, the pit of the drawer becoming more and more salient, a dense feeling dispersed throughout her frame. It was as if she was discarding precious experiences with her lover, the reality of which meant that she was simultaneously packing her trunk of memories, storing it in the deepest and most reserved corner of her mind.
Lauren regarded her rapid packing process, silently watching as each piece of clothing fell into her luggage. The Latina found herself in a deeply ambivalent state. Some part of her was truly sad at the outcome of their conversation, at the fact that Lucy was now frantically tossing her belongings behind her back, effectively preparing to step out of her life. She didn't intend for it to end this way, that was much was certain, especially so soon into their vacation. A smaller part of her feared that losing Lucy as a lover effectively translated to losing Lucy as a friend and confidant. The preeminent foundation on which their relationship was built had been a solid and resilient friendship, but the storms they weathered as a couple did little to buffer that previously solid friendship; the bricks of which had crumbled and withered away, the remnants drifting off into what was becoming an acerbic atmosphere.
But an even larger part of her was pleased, and as Lucy shut the top drawer and tugged at the one below it, Lauren could feel the weight gradually receding from her shoulders. The air flooding her lungs felt crisp and refreshing, it felt...nascent and welcoming. Should whatever relationship that emerged from this breakup turn acrimonious, she truly believed that they would be able to battle that acidity and dilute it with the same feelings of trust and respect that led to their friendship. The more pressing issue in Lauren's mind was on Camila, and exactly what this would mean for the two singers. She had never been one for words when it came to emotions and expressing feelings, but she knew that Camila deserved a vehement effort.
Lauren was dragged from her internal line of thought by the sound of a zipper coasting up its trail. Lucy had apparently finished packing and she reached for the handle on her suitcase. Her face bore a dank and profligate expression, her body language explicitly detailing her desire to be anywhere but where she currently stood.
"I'm leaving."
She hurriedly paced past where Lauren was seated on the bed, though she stopped when she felt a hand envelop her tiny wrist. She stopped without turning to face the other girl, internally chastising her inability to detach herself from her now former lover.
