"We're gonna be late again Air get up!" I hear Greysen yell, pulling me from my dreams and slumber and into the reality that it's a Wednesday morning and I have to go to school. "I'm up, I'm up." I groan, rolling over and shoving my head under a pillow. "Seriously Air we've got to be there in twenty minutes, I don't want to have everyone stare at me when I walk into first hour late again." He says with desperation in his voice. I sit up when I hear it, me not being a morning person makes his schooling a little bit more uncomfortable and I won't let that happen anymore.Greysen is dressed in a black hoodie and dark jeans, his dark hair styled messily on his head and his signature red converse on his feet. I get up from my bed and head to my closet, "I'll be down in five, can you make me a cup of coffee to go?" I ask him sweetly, also giving him a task so he's not stressing himself out more. "Vanilla or sweet cream creamer?" He asks me. "Sweet Cream please." I tell him, he nods and disappears from the room.
When he leaves I pull on my pastel colored tie-dye hoodie with a little cactus embroidered on the front left side, and a pair of black jeans as well as my black vans. I leave my closet and sit at my vanity, with in seconds my hair is brushed out and thrown into a mess bun on the top of my head and my mascara has been applied. I've never really been one for loads of makeup or elaborate hair styles. I'm simple, and I like it that way. I grab my backpack off the chair in the corner of my room and rush downstairs where Greysen is waiting for me at the kitchen counter, two cups of coffee in hand.
Before saying anything he's already at my side and we're walking out the door and out to my car, he hands me my cup of coffee and opens my door. I smile a thank you to him and get inside starting the engine. He slides into the passenger seat less than two seconds later and we're off to school.
"Three minutes, twenty seven seconds." He says quietly, breaking the comfortable silence. "What?" I ask. "You said it would take you five minutes to get ready, it took you three minutes and twenty seven seconds." He says with a shrug. "You didn't seriously time me did you?" I look at him and back at the road quickly. "I did." He says laughing, and I can't help but join. He's such a punctual person and I'm late to everything. We're quiet a pair actually because I try to leave 10 minutes after things start and he tries to get there 30 minutes early.
Greysen hooks up his phone to my aux cord and begins playing my favorite song, 'Dive' by Ed Sheeran, automatically I begin singing along. Greysen smiles, his reaction every time I sing. He thinks I'm great, I think I'm decent.
When the song ends we're pulling into the school parking lot. With 14 minutes to spare, in such a small town getting across it is very easy. Greysen and I decide to sit in the car for a few more minutes before heading inside to class, I take a sip of my coffee and he's mixed it perfectly. "Thank you." I tell him. "Of course." He smiles. "Do you work today?" He asks. "No not today, so we can go to Jaryd's after school if you want?" I offer. He shrugs before he says, "That's fine Air."
We listen to music and drink our coffee a minute longer until we decide to go inside. No one pays us much attention which I know is what Greysen was most worried about, having the spotlight. Our first hour classes are different, Greysen has creative writing and I have music appreciation. His class is the first stop, "I'll see you in English." I tell him, smiling my most empowering smile, he needs to be reminded that no matter what's going on outside of school that he's a normal 17 year old senior at school. He smiles back and nods and I begin to walk away, "Aris!" He yells in my direction causing me to turn around. "Yeah?" I ask. "You uhh.." he trails off for a moment looking embarrassed and like he's second guessing what he was going to say. "You look beautiful today." He finishes with confidence. I smile, a real smile. "Thank you Grey." I say before turning back around and heading to class with flushed cheeks and a stupid smile plastered on my face.
