Mae P.O.V.
"Dadddd!!!" I screamed unable to move as I saw the gunman standing a few feet away from my dad with his gun still pointed my way. I felt arms grab around my waist as they pulled me back stopping me from running toward him.
"Mae, Don't." The person grabbing whispered into my ear. It was Dr. Grey. But, it was too late. The gun went off again and this time it lodged in my left thigh. I felt blood start to trickle down my leg and I slowly fell to the floor. "Mae! Mae, Stay with me." Dr. Grey yelled keeping an eye on the gunman as I saw someone walking away from us. I started to feel the pain rush to my leg as I felt myself fading and everything went to black around me.

Meredith P.O.V.
"Mae, Mae. Wake up." I leaned over her trying to get her to wake up but I knew that she passed out due to the amount of pain she was probably in. "Mae, your going to be just fine." I spoke to her, knowing I was mostly speaking to myself. I gestured for someone to get me a stretcher as I looked over to make sure someone was with Dr. Shepherd. As I saw Dr. Burke kneeling over him I felt better knowing he was in the best hands he could be in at this moment. "Let's get her to an O.R., quick." I yelled out.

We got to the O.R. and I went to scrub while some of the scrub nurses set up Mae for the bullet removal and repair. I stood in the scrub room staring out at Mae trying to calm myself down. I couldn't go into this surgery with shaky hands and a messed up head. She's one of the good ones, Meredith. I told myself as I finished scrubbing and walked out draping myself in a gown and gloves.
"10-blade" I held out my hand toward the assisting nurse. "Okay, let's save this little girls life." I smiled under my mask and went to work.
Dr. Burke P.O.V.
"Dr. Shepherd, your going to be just fine." I spoke to him as I kneeled over once the gunman disappeared. "I will not let you die." I grabbed the stretcher coming toward me and lowered it as I helped put him on and wheeled him into O.R. 3.
"Dr. Burke." I heard as I went into the scrub room. I turned and saw Dr. Yang standing behind me. "I can assist if you need me." I nodded at her and she began to scrub next to me.
"We have a gunshot to the chest probably around the aorta. We're going to have to do damage control while we're in there." I caught her up on the whole situation and walked out gowning up and taking my place. "Dr. Shepherd, when you wake up you'll be as good as new and able to keep up with Mae." I flashed a masked smile toward Dr. Yang.

"Looks like it just missed the aorta." I said reaching my fingers and tracing along the aortic valve. "He lucked out." I looked up across the table. Dr. Yang had a stunned look on her face. "What is--" I started to say as I heard something click on the left side of my head.
"Do not save this mans life." A voice said coming from the left side of my head. "He doesn't deserve to live." I continued fixing the repair in the vessels around his heart.
"Dr. Yang, sew that vessel there." I told her trying to get her to refocus. "Sir, If I stop this man will code and he will die. That will leave his 10-year old daughter without a father. Do you want me to do that?" I tried to get the man to drop the gun away from me. I felt him lower the gun as I looked at Yang to release her hands. We both lifted our hands off of the patient and in a few seconds the heart monitor flat lined.
"Look, He's dead." I spoke to the gunman. "All the blood flooded to his heart. He's dead." I looked over at Dr. Yang who seemed to be on the brink of tears. I felt the gun be lowered completely and felt the rush of air as he walked out of the room. "Okay, let's continue." I looked at Dr. Yang plugging the leads of the heart monitor back onto his chest.

"Looks like it just missed the femoral artery." I looked around at the scrub nurses. "She should come out of this as good as new." I gave myself a little smile because I was only an intern performing a solo surgery on a 10-year old while a gunman was loose in the hospital.
"Dr. Grey." I heard someone come in. "Is everything alright here?" It was Dr. Torres. I looked over and nodded for her to scrub in.
"She has a gunshot wound to the left thigh." I caught her up. "It just missed her femoral artery and I was about to remove the bullet." I looked up as she took her place across from me.
"Good job, Did it hit any bone?" She asked.
"I don't think it did." I responded.
"Your not sure, Grey." She looked at me with her brow raised. "Let me check it out." She began to take a look at the path of the bullet and examining the femoral bone. "Looks good. She'll be able to keep up with her dad and be her normal self." She smiled under her mask.
"Good, She needs to keep up with her dad." I laughed.

"Time to close up." I told Dr. Yang as we finished the repair. "Dr. Yang, would you like to do the honors?" I asked. She grabbed the staple gun and began to close up Dr. Shepherd.

"Is his daughter okay?" I asked Dr. Grey as we walked him to a room once the hospital was all clear.
"Yeah, she'll be fine." She smiled. "The bullet missed the femoral artery and the bone. It was a quick and easy fix." She walked pushing Dr. Shepherds bed into the Cardio ICU. "She's in the Pediatric ICU, but she should be good to go in a week or so."
"Good, because I think Dr. Shepherd is going to need someone to take care of him." I smiled as we hooked him up to the heart monitor and respiratory machine. "They're going to need each other."
