"Mark?" The man in front of me with a salt and pepper beard and short brown hair resembled the man who used to be one of my best friends. The friend who I allowed to take care of my child when I had a late surgery. The man who I could go to when I was having a bad day and needed a drink. The man who secretly had a relationship with my wife and the mother of my child.

"Why, yes." He answered me seeing my confused look I held on my face. "You don't look to excited to see me." My face grew serious as I clenched my hands into a fist.

"I'm sorry I'm not more excited to see the man that broke up my marriage." I whispered angrily to him trying to keep my voice down so no one would here. "Why are you even here?"

"Wanted to see my girl, Mae." He leaned against the counter top casually looking around scanning the hallway around us. "Where is she anyway?" Without thinking my hand connected with his cheek as he fell to the ground in front of me. I was angry, but not at him. I was angry because this day had started with my daughter being hospitalized and continued to get worse and worse as it went on.

"Dr. Shepherd!" I heard someone yell out behind me as I shook out my hand. I turned to see that it was Dr. Hunt coming up the hallway looking down at Mark who was laying on the floor. "What happened?" He knelt down trying to see if Mark was conscious. "Someone help him out." Hunt turned to someone as they helped Mark up and onto a gurney.

"He's a frie-, He used to be one of my best friends." I sat down in one of the chairs that lay in the hall as Hunt took a look at it.

"It's not broken." Hunt let go of my hand as he looked from me to the gurney that Mark was on. "So, what he's the one that broke your marriage." He guessed as he stood up. I nodded and walked away from all the commotion surrounding the gurney over to where the Ped's wing was, I needed sometime to clear my head and Mae was exactly the person to do that.

I sat watching the tv that was hanging above the armoire in front of my bed. Rick and Daryl were hugging it out as I saw someone coming out of the corner of my eye. I paused the tv just as Daryl handed Rick his colt python as dad walked into the room looking frazzled.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked putting the remote on the table in front of me. "You look like you've seen a ghost." I stopped as I noticed him holding his hand. "What's happened?" I pointed at his hand as he held it up revealing a black and blue spreading across his first 2 knuckles.

"Got into a little bit of a fight." He came over and sat down on the left side of the bed. "You don't need to worry about me." I lifted my brow trying to figure out who he was getting into a fight with and I could only think of one person that would make it that mad. "All you need to do is relax and watch some tv." He said as he turns to see what I was watching before he turned back around confused about what it was.

"It's The Walking Dead, Rick is going to try and fight Negan and Daryl got his gun back." I tried to explain to him.

"Ahhh." He leaned his head back in understanding as he leaned across the bed. "Are you nervous?" He looked at me waiting for an honest answer.

"Well, wouldn't you be if you were having your brain cut open." I answered. "You know what it's like in there anything could go wrong and I don't want anything to go--" Dad stopped me by putting his figure up to my lips.

"Nothing is going to go wrong, you know as well as me that Nelson is one of the best surgeons in this hospital and he will not let anything happen." I nodded as he released my lips from his finger and I put my head back into the pillow.

"Mae!" I looked back up to see someone leaning against the doorframe. "How're doin'?" the man spoke again as I refused to believe my eyes.

"Dad, is that Mark?" I turned away from the door toward dad making sure that I wasn't seeing things because of my head. "Why is he here? Is he the person you punched?" Dad nodded as Mark walked into the room to finish at the end of my bed next to where dad was sitting.

"Hey, Mae. We're here to take you up to the OR now." Arizona and another man came into the room breaking my attention away from Mark who was now standing in front of me. Arizona looked around the room to meet Dad's eyes as he nodded signaling her to bring me to the OR and out of this room. "Let's get going." She unlocked the wheels to my bed and brought me out of the room leaving Mark alone with dad in the room.

"Sorry about that." I looked to Arizona who was pushing me from the side. "You came in at the wrong moment." I laughed trying to lighten the mood.

"It's ok, who was that man anyway?" She looked from me to the front of the gurney.

"That was one of my dad's friends, they don't really talk anymore because of what happened and we haven't seen him since we left New York." She nodded as we entered the OR and she had me move onto the table.

"When you wake up you'll be as good as new." She smiled as I rested my head on the pad behind me before the mask was placed over my face and the room faded to black.
