The Man in a suit of Armour
Part One
The Tower in a Castle
The man in his suit
walked up the stairs,
to the 42nd floor.
Instead of taking the elevator
he walked,
it gave him purpose.
He would not walk
into anyone,
nor get stuck in conversations,
that would put him
to sleep.
He wouldn’t have to chance,
seeing the Dragon Lady.
His boss,
who took any
opportunity
to mock an employee,
trying to goad them
into quitting.
Or make them fight back,
so she could
fire them.
The man in his suit,
smiled grimly.
He was close to getting
the job.
To free everyone from the,
Dragon’s sharp claws
and fiery breath.
Opening the door he entered
the office.
People nodded,
said their hellos.
Would these people
like him anymore if he
became their boss?
Or would they
hate and ignore him?
Sitting down,
he opened his briefcase.
Inside was a picture
from his five year old
daughter.
He stood beside her,
their stick figures holding circular hands.
Her mother wasn’t in the picture,
she had died
recently.
Leaving him alone with Alice.
She was his only reason
for living.
Taking a piece of tape
he hung it to the wall
next to the other
pictures his daughter
had drawn.
