Janet's POV

I stared at Elle and then the handkerchief,

"Pardon?" She tried her best to wipe away her tears, but it was useless. I pulled her into a tight hug and furrowed my eyebrows trying to process it all.

"Who was the woman who gave it to you?" I looked at her and smiled unsure,

"Baby, I have no clue." She nodded and slipped out of my embrace. I watched as she rummaged through her closet until she found an old worn out book. It wasn't until she opened it that I had noticed it was full of pictures. She slowly took one out and handed it to me.

I stared at the picture in awe. She looked exactly like the woman I had seen. The only difference was that, the woman in this picture looked younger.

"Who is this?" She smiled and messed with her hair,

"My mother.." I looked at her and the picture trying to find similarities. They could have been sisters. I broke focus once I heard a knock on her bedroom door. She stood up and went to open it. Ryan walked in and smiled,

"I'm ready to get Eissa. Shouldn't y'all be gone?" She nodded and chuckled,

"Yes, we were just about to go." I gently sat the picture back in the book and smiled at Elle. As we made our way to the car I slid my hand into hers and kissed it. I got inside with her and rolled my eyes once I felt a tug at my braids.

"Baby?" She giggled and let my braids go while turning to me,

"Hm?" I messed with my fingers and stared at her,

"Would you believe me if I told you that the woman from the church looked exactly like your mother. She lifted an eyebrow. Her face held an unreadable expression to it,

"Don't mess with me, Janet." I shook my head and held her hands,

"I'm being serious. They looked the same." She sighed and shrugged,

"I guess everyone has a look alike." I frowned at the way she shrugged the topic off. I wasn't making this up.

"You don't believe me?" She adjusted her glasses and stared at me,

"I do, baby, but... what are you trying to get at? She's gone, Jan. It couldn't have been her." I nodded and decided to drop the subject. She pulled me into her arms gently and held me tight,

"I didn't mean to be rude." She kissed my cheek softly,

"You weren't rude." I stared into her eyes and could see a hint of sadness. I kissed her softly, trying not to mess our makeup up, and smiled.
