'' First years 'ere! First years, c'mere! '' A loud voice boomed across the station as we stepped from the train. Harry and I shot each other an amused look before following the spurt of eleven year olds to a giant man. Grabbing Ron's hand, I pulled him and my brother to the front and flashed the giant a warm smile. '' Harry! Mary! Good to see yer again. '' Hagrid exclaimed, smiling down at us. '' Wow.. '' Ron mumbled, his comically widenend eyes focussed on Hagrid's huge form. I rolled my eyes at the awe the ginger boy portraited, shaking my head as we all started to walk slowly towards a lake. '' Four per boat, off yer go! '' Hagrid told everyone, claiming the front boat for himself. Harry, Ron and I stepped into a boat with a clumsy boy named Neville. Didn't he lose his toad? I had my hands folded in my lap, one arm linked with my brother's as the boats started to sail on their own. The lake was dark and no matter how I tried, I couldn't see through it's black surface. A dark, grim reflection of my own face stared back at me, and with a huff I decided that wasn't a view I enjoyed. '' There it is, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. '' Hagrid's voice announced proudly, and immidiately I looked up and infront of the boats. '' Brilliant.. '' I heard Ron breathe out as I couldn't help but nod and agree. Forming infront of us was an amazing, prestigious castle that rose out of the mist like a beacon of light and prosperity. Hogwart's Castle. It was magnificent, and I could not find any words to describe it. The boats had halted at a small shore and allowed us to step out and walk up the stairs leading to the huge castle doors. I had taken to holding Harry's hand, uncomfortable with all the bodies and people around me. We were halted infront of two doors inside the castle. '' Thank you Hagrid, I will take it from here. '' A female voice ordered. The giant simply smiled, send me and my twin a wave, and walked back the way we came in. I returned my attention to the lady, or rather witch, infront of me. She was getting near the old side and seemed strict but kind, her robes a vague green colour with a matching hat. '' My name is Professor McGonagall. Ceputy Headmistress of Hogwarts. The start of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.'' She explained quickly. It was easy to hear that she had this memorized, and most likely had to repeat this every year to the new students. She disappeared through the two big doors, leaving us all alone for a few moments. Immidiately, a young boy with slicked back, light blonde hair and a smirk stepped infront of me and my brother. I arched a brow, looking up at him questioningly. '' So it is true what they said. On the train. The Potter Twins have come to Hogwarts. '' The boy began, the smirk never leaving his face. The crowd of first years behind us started to murmur as the rumours were confirmed; We are here. '' My name is Malfoy. Draco Malfoy. These two- '' Draco pointed at the buffoons beside him. '' Are Crabbe and Goyle.'' Ron couldn't help but snicker at the ridiculous name Draco had, and this caught the blonde's attention. '' Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. Hand me down robes and books.. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford. '' Draco sneered, sending Ron a disgusted glare. I huffed, my free hand taking one of Ron's and giving it a comforting squeeze. '' You'll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potters. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.'' Draco ended his revolting speech, holding out his hand to us. I scrunched my nose and glared at him, making it clear I didn't need his 'help.' '' Thanks, but we can figure that out for ourselves. '' Harry retorted, refusing to touch the blonde's hand. Draco scoffed and dragged his goons with him, disappearing back in the crowd of children. Pathetic. I hope we wound his pride. I turned my attention back to the doors right as they opened, McGonagall appearing before us. '' Please, follow me. The Sorting ceremony will begin shortly. '' I let go of Ron's hand and held Harry's tightly, walking through a giant line. I glanced up, the ceiling showing the weather as if there was no ceiling at all. '' It's charmed, the ceiling. To show the weather outside. I read about it in Hogwarts; A History. '' I heard Hermione whisper to a girl behind me. I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. Of course she had to be a know it all. I read all the first year books already and with my Eidelic Memory, I remember every word of them. But that doesn't mean I throw the information out like I am santa claus. To each of our sides were two tables, all filled with children ranging from different ages, wearing their house colours. At the far back, on a lifted platform, was a long table filled with adults. The Teachers, no doubt. I scanned across them and found the person I was looking for; Severus Snape. He seemed extremely bored, his eyes glancing over the crowd of children until he caught my gaze. We stared for a moment, until he broke it off first. I smirked triumphantly, stopping infront of the podium. Snape 0, Potter 1. McGonagall stood on the podium next to a stool with a hat, and called forth names. Each time, the student sat down and the hat seemed to be lost in thought before it loudly exclaimed a house it deemed the person most fitting for. Then finally, it was our turn. '' Potter, Harry! '' He looked at me nervously before walking up the stage, sitting down on the stool. I was nervous, my hands fiddling constantly as I shuffled my feet. It took long, I could see Harry mumbling something before the hat finally yelled. '' Gryffindor! '' Harry sighed in relief and jumped from the stool as all the Gryffindor's cheered, chanting something along the lines of 'We got a Potter, we got a Potter!' as he sat down next to the ginger twins. I shook my head with a soft smile before I heard my name. Harry flashed me two thumbs up right before the hat was placed on my head, sinking over my eyes due to its size. '' Ah, another Potter. Brave and bold like your brother, but a thirst to prove yourself that seems almost dark. A great memory, you would do well in Ravenclaw. Ah, but it cost you much, remembering every hateful and sad thing in your life. And there seems to be... yes.. a connection with one of the Professors. Oh this is a tough one, but it better be...- '' I crossed my fingers as the hat contemplated my house, hoping I would come to be with my twin brother. They wouldn't really seperate us, would they? '' Slytherin! '' It yelled, as McGonagall ushered me off the stool to make room for the next student. My whole world collapsed as I shakily made my way to the Slytherin table, ignoring the fact no one cheered. I glanced over at Harry, seeing his crestfallen expression. Why did I have to be put in the rivaling house, of all houses? The one that would never allow us to be siblings to begin with? I slid in an empty seat at the table, in the far back and alone. This was really happening. I was alone. On my own. I lifted my fuzzy head to glance at the teachers table, seeing Snape with a satisfied smirk on his lips. Of course he is happy with this, getting the oppertunity to make my life a living hell every second of every day. He was, after all, head of Slytherin house. I groaned audibly and rested my arms on the table, smacking my head down on them and keeping it there. As the food appeared, I merely remained as I was. I wasn't hungry. I doubt I would ever be hungry again. This day has doomed me, and it hasn't even ended yet..
