Cold. That was all I could think about. All I could feel. Uncle Vernon had completely lost his mind, dragging the entire family on a boat in a storm. Harry tightened his arms around me, pulling me closer as I hid my face in his chest. This is ridiculous! I couldn't even feel my limbs anymore. Where they still there? Carefully, I wiggled my fingers and let out a sigh of relief as I felt them move. The rain and wind whipped my wet, red hair around my face, repeatedly smacking my own cheeks. Finally, the boat bumped into something solid and Uncle Vernon loudly ordered us all to get out. Harry scrambled up and stepped out of the boat, hoding tightly onto my hand as I clumsily made my way after him. We stood infront of a weathered, wooden house on a piece of rock in the sea. I glanced around me and my face fell, seeing nothing but see every where I looked. '' I don't think the letters will find us here, Mary.. '' Harry muttered in defeat, shaking his head once to get the rain out. I sighed, my fingers curling around his and giving a comforting squeeze as we all walked inside. The place looked as rundown from the inside, as it looked from the outside. Our hope of having a decent housing was lost the moment we saw the living room. Aunt Petunia just finished sprawling a thin and torn blanket on the floor, her eyes narrowing as she glared at us. '' You two, you sleep here. '' Her voice and gaze changed to a loving one as she eyed Dudley. '' You can sleep on the couch deary, I already stuffed pillows and a thick blanket on there. Daddy and Mommy will be upstairs. Sweet dreams, my boo-boo.~ '' She coo'd, pressing a kiss on Dudley's forehead. As she and Uncle Vernon walked upstairs, they both felt the need to send Harry and me a deadly glare before disappearing up the stairs completely. I rolled my eyes at Harry, who hid his smile behind his hands as Dudley shoved us to the side and crashed down on the sofa. One miesely minute and the room was filled with the outrageously loud snoring of our cousin. I pinched the bridge of my nose with my index-finger and thumb, convinced I would not get any sleep tonight. '' It's almost midnight, we're almost eleven. '' Harry whispered to me as to not wake Dudley up. I nodded and sat down on the floor criss-cross applesauce, Harry sitting down next to me. He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me into his side as I rest my head on his shoulder. I was way more soaked and cold then him, my body even more fragile than his. I shuddered constantly as I watched my brother draw a cake and candles in the sand and dirt on the floor. We both stared intently at Dudley's watch as it beeped, signalling that it was midnight. '' Happy birthday, Harry. '' I whispered, glancing at him to see the dreamy gaze on his face. '' Happy birthday, Mary. '' He answered after a few seconds, pressing a kiss to my temple.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Loud bangs filled the room as the door shook. I frowned, my cold frame clinging to Harry in horror. Dudley woke up, his sleepy face confused as he mumbled incoherently to no one in particular. Upstairs, I heard loud exclamations of cuss words and shuffling feet. Uncle Vernon. Another loud noise and the door fell. Just like that. Completely out of its hinges and laying there, flat on the floor. I narrowed my eyes as I stood up, standing infront of my brother. I would die for him if I had to, and from the two of us I knew how to control my powers, somewhat. I was shaking however, and Harry rested a comforting hand on my shoulder but didn't dare step away from behind me. We both knew I was the best shield at the moment. A huge, no, a Giant figure stepped inside and lingered in the doorway for a moment. '' Was that really necessary, you big, daft baffoon? '' I heard a velvety voice hiss in dismay. The giant scratched the back of its neck before stepping inside and revealing himself. I arched a brow as I tried to hide my fear, my body crouching some as I tried to cover my brother up the best I could. Infront of us stood a giant man, a size no normal human being could have. He had a long, thick brown beard and wild, dark hair. He wore pelts and leathery clothes, seemingly from a time long gone. His whole face was hidden par his eyes and somehow, they told me he was a friendly being. Behind him, a man with a dark aura stepped in and stood in the corner. He had long, greasy black hair and a hooked nose. Somehow, it didn't make him any less attractive. He had a dark and sinister gaze, his lips seeming to be permanently pulled in a sneer. In other words, he felt like danger to me. Danger to my brother. I snarled at him as he arched a brow. He was looking behind me and almost seemed amused as he reached inside his black robe. Who in the world still wears robes? Thinking he was gathering a weapon, I felt my fingertips tingle as I aimed one hand at him. '' Expelliarmus. '' I whispered so they couldn't hear, the tingling intensifying as a stick flew from his robes and landed in my hand. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, staring at the stick with a sudden urge to burst out in laughter. This was his weapon? How pathetic. Without warning, the stick flew from my grasp and back to the man, landing smoothly in his hand. I narrowed my eyes, pushing my brother further behind me. '' Insolent brat, do not touch what is not yours. '' He snapped at me, before his eyes widenend some. Surprise and longing formed on his face as he finally looked at me, Mary Potter, the perfect twin image of my mother. I took a stray curl of my red locks and gently nudged it behind my ear, tilting my head to the side like a lost puppy would. Somehow, the danger the man posed seconds ago, seemed irrelevant. Harry squeezed my shoulder reassuringly, noticing that my tense posture was relaxing. I took a deep breath and stepped to the side, revealing the rest of my brother as I stood next to him, slipping my hand in his. It was best if I didn't talk. '' W-who are you? '' Harry finally found his voice, his free hand nudging the glasses back up his nose. We really need to get those fixed. The giant seemed to have frozen during the happing between the dark man and myself, but now with Harry's question, he returned to the land of the living. '' Ah, yes. Forgot me manners, eh? My name is Hagrid, Keeper of Grounds at Hogwarts. 'Course ye know all 'bout Hogwarts, dont'ja? '' Hagrid announced excitedly, flashing me and my brother a happy smile. I didn't return it, still wary of the entire situation. When Harry remained quiet, I shot him a look. He blinked, before widening his eyes. '' Right. I forgot, Mary.. '' He apologized softly. Since I did speak to him, he easily forgot that I spoke to no one else. I smiled for the first time in a long while, a genuine one. My plump lips curled and little dimples formed in my cheeks as I reassured him. He turned his attention back to the two men and so did I, noticing the intent stare of the dark man. When our eyes met, he grimaced and focussed on Hagrid. '' This dark man 'ere is Professor Snape. He'll be teaching ye Potions at Hogwarts. '' Hagrid continued, slapping the gloomy man on the shoulder. Snape sneered, grabbing his stick to nudge Hagrid's hand off and taking a step to the side. Hagrid ignored it, his eyes focussed on the stairs. There stood Uncle Vernon with a gun, and Aunt Petunia and Cousin Dudley cowered behind him. '' THIS IS TRESPASSING! '' He shouted as he aimed his gun at the two men, his face turning red in anger. '' Oh cheer up Dursley, ye' great prune! '' Hagrid mused, grabbing the barrel of the gun and bending it like it was paper. As Uncle Vernon pulled the trigger in fear, the rain of bullets spurt through the ceiling. He let out a squeek and dropped the now useless gun, standing there flabbergasted for a moment. Hagrid turned back to us. '' I got something for ye' lot. Might 'ave sat on it some point, but I reckon it tastes the same. Baked it meself, words 'n all. '' He announced proudly, reaching in his giant coat and handing us a beat-up box. As Harry reached for it, I stopped him. My wary gaze was locked on the box for a moment, feeling the tingling in my fingertips as I grazed my hand over it. The box emitted vibes of love, friendiness and some sort of longing. It was made and given with the best of intentions. Snape's gaze was set solemnly on me and my actions, i felt it scorching on my skin as I examined the box. Finally done, I stepped back and let Harry through to get the box. I do not touch strangers or their things. Well... A part from Snape's stick. I shot the man an apologetic look as this thought crossed my mind, before I looked back at Harry the moment he opened the box. A bright smile formed on his face and I leaned in, peeking over his shoulder to see a big cake. The green letters read 'Happeh birthdae Harry 'n Mary. ' At this, I allowed a warm smile to form on my lips as I looked up at Hagrid. '' T-thank you so much! '' Harry told him from the both of us, making the giant blush. I giggled at this, the first form of sound that left me. Immidiately, the Dursley's stopped cowering and stared at me with a dreamy smile as Hagrid followed suit. Snape was just far enough away to not have heard it. His dark, confused eyes soared over everyone's faces before drilling into mine. I was the only one not looking dreamy, of course it was my fault somehow. I held my breath as a sad expression formed on my face, my hands cupping Harry's cheeks and patting them softly. He blinked and shook his head, snapping from the daze as he looked at my sad face. '' It's okay, Mary. You didn't do it on purpose. '' He murmured repeatedly, grabbing my hand and squeezing it softly as he whistled an ugly, sharp tone that snapped everyone from their dazes. Snape was confused as he heard the Potter boy's words, quickly masking that with a bored and uninterested expression on his face. Hagrid shook his big, fluffy head before remembering where he was. '' Right. I reckon y'know all 'bout Hogwarts, eh? '' He stated. I tilted my head once more to the side with a confused expression, Harry shaking his head. '' Hogwarts? What's a Hogwarts? '' my brother asked the giant. Hagrid groaned, puffing out his chest. '' Well a school of Magic 'course! Where else do ye' reckon yer parents learned it all? '' He was now confused. Harry frowned. '' L-learned what? '' Hagrid narrowed his eyes as slowly, realisation dawned on his face. He turned his head and stared at the Dursley's. '' You didn't tell 'em? '' Uncle Vernon shook, trying to gather his words. '' Tell us what? '' My brother pressed, now getting agitated that no one clearly answered his questions. '' Yer a Wizard, Harry. And yer a Witch, Mary. And thumpin' good ones, once ye' learn it all at Hogwarts. Under Dumbedore too! Best darn Headmaster school's ever had, I tell ye! '' Hagrid exclaimed proudly. Harry was about to disagree but I slipped a hand to cover his mouth. He turned to look at me in confusion before I gave him a pointed look. Seconds passed before I saw that it hit him; The tricks we could do were magic indeed. He nodded and that's when I retracted my hand with a sheepish smile, looking back up at Hagrid. '' No! They won't be going! I won't stand for having some old cackpot learn them magic tricks! '' Uncle Vernon suddenly screamed, pointing a fat, acussing finger at Hagrid. The giant turned around with a loud yell, pointing his umbrella at our Uncle. '' No one makes fun of Albus Perkamentus Dumbledore in my presence. Never. Insult. Him. '' He threatened, poking the umbrella against Vernon's neck. '' You knew? '' Harry suddenly asked, glaring harshly at our Aunt & Uncle. '' You knew and you never told us! '' Aunt Petunia stepped from behind her husband, sneering. '' Of course we know! How could we not? My perfect sister being what she was. Oh how proud my parents were when she got her letter. A witch in the family! Coming home and turning rats into cups! I was the only one who saw her for what she was. A monster.. a .. a freak. And then she had to marry that Potter and of course, had to go and get herself blown up, landing us with you two! When we took you in, we swore we would put an end to this nonsense. '' she screeched hysterically. I arched a brow, glaring harshly her way. This seems to have been bottled up for quite some time as it went on and on. '' Blown up!? You told us our parents died in a car crash! '' Harry screamed back, getting cut off by Hagrid. '' A car crash killed James & Lily Potter? Ha! Never. You are pathetic, Dusleys. '' I furrowed my eyebrows at all the noises, the screaming and accusing. Instead, I turned around to eye Snape. He was standing in the corner, his arms crossed with his black robes covering them. He didn't notice my stare, and for that I was grateful. I turned back to the loudness and walked forwards, resting a calming hand on Hagrid's leg. He immidiately halted his screaming and looked down at me, his entire body relaxing as he saw my warm smile. Somehow, I had a soothing effect on people when I touched them. '' Right. Yer right, Mary. Let's keep it quiet. Here's yer letters. '' He mumbled softly as I let go of his leg and took the letters from him. I handed one to Harry and opened mine. Standard sized cauldron... fantastic beasts and where to find them...- Where in the world were we going to find all of this? I tugged on Harry's sleeve as he nodded. He thought the same. '' Uh, excuse me, Hagrid. W-where do we find all this? A-and. We don't have any money.. '' Hagrid smiled and patted us on the shoulder. I grimaced and flinched away from the touch, forcing down the panic attack that was coming up. Harry quickly acted as if nothing was wrong, pressing on and on about the supplies so their attention wouldn't be on me. I slowly calmed down as I heard Hagrid talk to him about some place to get all this, and that he would go with Harry and I had to go with Snape for safety reasons. Harry frowned and immidiately took my hand in his. '' No. I have to go with her. You see, she can't... talk. '' it was obvious that the stutter in his voice was because he was lying. I could talk, I just choose not to because of the effect it had. '' That is quite alright, Mr Potter. I despise noise from children. '' Snape stated matter-of-factly. God, what got his panties in a twist? Harry shot him a glare, stubbornly shaking his head. '' I am not going without her. '' I sighed and stepped forwards, pressing a kiss to his temple in reassurance. I wanted to go, and he knew it. He gritted his teeth and let go of my hand, stepping to stand next to Hagrid. '' Just.. for a few hours, no more. '' He insisted as I nodded my head, flashing him an excited smile. I was curious to this whole new world. I walked to Snape and stood next to him, staring at my brother until I felt Snape touch my shoulder and the world twist and twirl like if I was forced through a tube.
