I get to a large hall of houses.
Looking to my right, there's a small gathering of people my own age.
They're huddled together meekly.
I walk over, and the tallest one looks up.
The boy's hair is black, with piercing green eyes.
"Are you the new recruit?"
His voice is soft, contrasting his appearance.
"Yes. What will you have me do?"
His eyes take on a cruel look.
"Take the last house on the right. Be careful, don't die."
I nod.
They think I'm weak because I'm a slave.
I'll just have to prove them wrong.
Walking down to the house, I adopt a submissive pose.
Ears and tail down, eyes downcast, sort of shrinking in on myself.
Once I get to the door, I knock softly.
An angry-looking man answers the door.
I push my head down while he looks me over.
"I take it you'll be cleaning my house?"
I nod, keeping my eyes still down.
"Well, you look rather weak. Don't disappoint me, Neko."
I nod, then walk in once he motions.
"Don't mess up my study, twit. Just get the place cleaned."
Once again, I nod, then set to work.
This place really is a mess.
Then again, he does have other people to clean it.
There are dirty plates everywhere, and open scrolls thrown across the room.
Like, literally.
They're opened from one side of the room to the other.
When was the last time this place was cleaned?
Sighing, I start rolling up scrolls, that are then stacked on the floor.
Grabbing as many plates as I can hold, I pull them into the kitchen and wash them.
After I put those away, I return to the living room.
Grabbing a broom, I start sweeping the floor, putting the scrolls on the table to be classified later.
Then I wipe down all surfaces to remove dust and grime, even from the couches.
Once that's done, I go back into the kitchen.
This room is worse.
I can't see the real color of the counters.
That, and I'm pretty sure that something is dead and rotting in the corner.
It's black, white, furry, and it stinks.
No, it's not a skunk.
It's way too big.
Sighing, I wash all of the dishes piled up next to the sink.
That takes a while, as it looks like no one's done the dishes for a month.
In case you didn't guess, this place reeks, especially with my enhanced senses.
Then I start scrubbing the counter, and this stuff does not want to come off.
Whadaya know, the counter's white.
Once I find that out, I grab a mop, and avoid the furry thing in the corner.
The angry-looking man walks in, and I bow.
He tells me to stand up, and I tilt my head up as well.
He nods.
"If it pleases you, sir, what is the furry thing in the corner?"
He turns, and looks mildly surprized it's there.
"I'm... not quite... sure, actually..."
It makes a coughing sound, and both of us jump three feet in the air.
Once it starts moving, I take a few steps back.
"Sirrrrr?"
He shakes his head, and I see the thing has eyes.
I give a small squeak, then we both high-tail it out of there.
No pun intended.
We end up in his study, and he locks the door.
After I get my breath back, I start pacing.
"Fuzzy! And it was moving! Has eyes... We are all going to die!"
I'm moving my arms exaggeratedly and walking quite fast.
His eyes are wide, and he's still got his back against the door.
"Should we send for someone?"
Once he speaks, I stop pacing.
"I don't think that will be necessary. This is a simple extermination mission. I can do this..."
Of course, on the inside, I was freaking out.
He nods, handing me a knife, and unlocking the door with a knife himself.
