"What the hell Rain"

You'd think that after 4 months, and the conversation you just had, you would receive an apology call, maybe text. But what do I get? I get yelled at for just stating how I've been.

R- hi Daniel. I've been good. How about you?

D- cut the crap Rain. What the hell was that?

R- I'm sorry that I told you how I've been. I mean, what did you expect?

D- what do you mean?

R- Oh idk. Maybe the fact that I haven't heard from you in over 4 months.
-so don't think that you can waltz back into my life when you clearly don't care.

D- Rain I'm sorry. Please let me explain.

R- bye Seavey.

After that last text, I could feel my heart break even more. I blocked his number so he couldn't contact me anymore.

      I laid back down on my bed. Thinking to myself, why?

Why now does he care?

Why is apologizing?

Why?

     My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a door closing. My mom must be home.

     I got up and thought I would see why she's home early.

     As I made my way down the stairs I could hear her talking. Clearly she was on the phone, but with who.

"Hey girl. It's been too long - haha how have you been - I'm good - how's Anna"

      I knew right there my mom was talking to the one and only Keri Seavey, aka Daniels Mom. I completely forgot that Daniels Mom and mine were extremely close. At some points, I would even call her "Mom".

"How's Daniel - oh really! That's great news. I'll be sure to tell Rain - alright I'll talk to you soon girl - bye bye"

     What could possibly be great news. I had to find out. I guess Mom is finding out I skipped school early. Yay!

     I made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen, where my mom was seated on the stool by the island.

"What's great news?" My Mom jumped from her seat, clearly not expecting me.

"Oh-uh-um. W-what are you doing home?"

"I asked first" I said keeping a cold face.

"Sweetie you may want to take a seat...."

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN HES COMING HOME" I practically screamed out.

"Honey, don't raise your voice. I know this was unexpected but he misses his family"

"How long is gonna be home"

"Rain-"

"MOM!! HOW. LONG. IS HE GONNA BE HOME" my voice cracked at the end.

"2 weeks"

     Well shit. That's gonna be pretty difficult. I can avoid him during school hours but weekends will be ha-

"I also invited them over for dinner when he gets back" my mom says barely above a whisper.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!

"Honey why are you so against him coming home"

"It's nothing"

"Rain. You need to tell me"

"Alright you want to know. Well see, before he left, he promised me he would never forget me. WELL GUESS WHAT MOM. HE FORGOT. After 3 months of us slowly drifting, he finally stopped replying to my texts and wouldn't answer my calls. But what hurt the most, is how I would see him, on his band members instagram stories. He would be just sitting there, on his phone. DOING NOTHING!!! He forgot about me Mom. He had the chance to contact me multiple times. Yet he never did. So that's why I don't want to see him. Cause my best friend broke his promise" I was now full on sobbing.

My mom just sat there. Clearly trying to wrap her head around the information I've just given her. As if on cue, she gets up and gives me a hug. This wasn't just any hug. This was a sympathetic hug.

"Baby I'm so sorry about all of this. If you want I can call off the the dinner"

"No it's fine. I can't avoid the Seaveys forever" i let out a dry laugh. "When is he coming home?"

My mom looks down to her feet. As if she's deciding whether or not to tell me.

"Less than 2 days"
