The future is now. Here, even though I am deeply concerned, I'm still behind a screen. Because we have begun to really loose our connection with nature, we are loosing such astoundingly valuable color in our lives. And, as generations have come and passed, we lost more and more of our awareness with this disconnect...until the present, when hardly anyone believes that humans psychologically need a connection with nature in their lives. As technology, such as the addictive smartphones we depend on so very much, rises to take control of us, so does the rate of depression, suicide, ADD, and other mental problems. It's a fact. And many people are okay with it, or think that there's nothing to do but to laugh at suicide. Do you hear yourself? Suicide isn't something to shrug off and make fun of. We've succumbed to our deadliest creation, however unintentional. Giving into our obsessive use of technology is narrowing our minds, dulling our lives. So many people cut themselves out of life experiences just so they can stay home, stuck in sticky stagnation, and lazy around on social media or just behind a screen. Our eyes are showing signs of severe sleep deprivation (even sleep disorders caused by inconsistent sleep schedules), and lack of awareness as we stick our noses in phones rather than looking at people in the face. It's painful to talk to somebody who's looking away from you, at a screen. To me, it is so painful. Especially if you love that person and you want the best and you believe that their lack of involvement in the world around them is seriously killing their soul.
It's proven fact that taking a walk in the woods or being out in nature hones your mind and soul. No price of technology now can make you see, hear, feel, smell, or taste all at once. Nature stimulates all of your senses, causing you to feel the most alive out of any time. It's uncommon to find people who would take me seriously when I ask, "when is the last time you just sat and admired a tree?" Did you ever take the time to just look at it and observe? Have you noticed that it's not just a large hunk of wood sprouted from the ground? It has unexpected curves and textures and colors, causing your eyes to follow the branches like brush strokes on a painting. You can see the sweet-smelling wind bend the leaves, and hear how all the trees in the wind sound like the waves of an ocean surrounding you and sealing you in a warm, enlightening, inspiring environment.
Our disconnect is so massive now. Not only to our care for politics, or fake news, but to Mother Nature herself. Take a second to think: when did she get the name Mother Nature? Certainly when people were spiritually connected to nature itself. They believed that nature was the mother of all humans and living things. A mother-child bond must be a strong one, right? Without a good connection with a parent, you loose guidance and your senses. You lack certain life lessons and knowledge. Now, this world has finally come to ignoring nature altogether. The children are so narrow-minded that they don't even know that they have a parent, let alone have a connection with her.
