Elusive (Short Story)

Chapter Four

Pulling up to the motel, Shoeler notices he arrived first and radios Director Collins, "Sir, I made it to the motel, what now?"

STATIC, CLICK!

Director Collins' voice roars the radio, "No matter what happens, you wait for backup. Got it?!"

Shoeler replies boredly, "Ya, whatever!" CLICK

Looking down at the file he had gotten from Agent Gomez, "hmm, Room 207."

Disregarding the warning given to him by Collins he turns off the engine and exits his 2013 black escalade. Walking towards room 207 he notices the housekeeper in room 205 and takes the room keys off her cleaning cart. Unlocking the door he slowly retrieves his gun from his hip and silently enters the room. Unbeknownst to him David was waiting for him, pushing the door close he was unaware of David hiding in the darkness behind the door until the cold steel pipe made contact with the back of his head.

Waking up in an small uncomfortable cot Shoeler is disoriented but he could still see he was in the agency's infirmary.

"Ah,you're awake!, I'll go get Director Collins now."

Director Collins enters the room in a grimacing manner, "Well, you've managed to disobey my orders once again."

Wincing slightly Shoeler attempts to sit up.

"No, stay down you need all the rest you can get which is why you'll be going on vacation."

"But-"

"I'm not asking you I'm telling you to take it, its a paid vacation plus it'll give you time to spend with Susan and the kids", turning to leave he adds, "because when you get back you will be reassigned to a different case."

Back in Director Collins' office Agent Covy, Agent Gomez and Director Collins are discussing the fleeing of Lawrence.

"Dammit!", Gomez yelled, "We almost had him!"

RING,RING,RING!

"Hello!" Silence "Hello!" More silence "Who is this?!"

"Tell Shoeler to back off or so help me God I will kill Susan, Alexis and Maria!" CLICK

Horrified, Gomez turns to Collins, "He targeting Shoeler's family!"
