Elusive (Short Story)

Chapter Six

After landing at the Charlotte-Douglas Airport they all make their way to their hotel where they will prep for their mission.

"We have a lock on Lawrence's location,we got him this time."

Director Collins says to the group as they enter their hotel room. Unloading their bags they all began to put on their bulletproof vest and strap on their guns. As they prepare to leave Collins makes one last comment, "If you get to the location first wait for backup!," looking at Shoeler he repeats, "Wait for backup!"

Arriving to the abandoned parking deck they all exit their cars, "Alright everyone fan out, search everywhere, Gomez go with Shoeler!"

Gomez and Shoeler walks away from the group and begin to search, Gomez breaks the silence first, " Why is finding Lawrence so important to you?" Grunting Shoeler responds, "Its not!"

"Maybe we should split up, we'll cover more ground."

"Okay."

Walking away Shoeler hears a clanking noise coming from behind him, turning around he sees a face he never thought he would see.

Smirking, "Well Shoeler I see you fell into my trap once again, now how bout you drop that gun and we fight, man to man?"

Dropping his gun, Shoeler and Lawrence began circling each other waiting for the other to throw the first punch. Lawrence threw the first punch and then they were off, both were evenly match considering they both were calculating their moves precisely. Although Shoeler was fighting out of anger and self-defense and David was fighting just to fight, David was able to get the upper hand and body slammed Shoeler onto the cold hard cement.

Grabbing Shoeler's gun, David points it at a barely conscious Shoeler, "See you're weak, JUST LIKE LILLY!" then he index finger tickled the trigger.

BANG! Silence

"Shoeler, are you alright?"

It was Gomez, sitting up Shoeler sees Lawrence laying dead in a pool of his own blood. The sound of sirens fill the air as the two walk/limp out of the parking deck.

-Two hours later-

The EMT and coroner arrive on the scene and after securing the building, bagging David Lawrence's body and checking Shoeler for damaging injuries, Shoeler, who is still sitting in the back of the EMT, looks to the sky abd says, "See Lil, I told you I'd get him."
