Changes Everything

"Really?" Charlie's smile radiated the room, or at leastSelena thought so. "Oh." Charlie's face fell. "What?" Selenawas confused. "If Bella still loves me then...nevermind." Charlieshook his head as if shaking off the thought. "No." Selena stoodin front of her apartment door, hands on her hips. "You are notleaving until you tell me what's wrong." Her voice was firm. ButCharlie wouldn't give in.

"I can't tell you." Charlie said. How I really feel aboutyou, he finished the sentence inhis head. He thought that when Bella cheated, it would be a reason todump her and make Selena love him. But now that Selena told him thatBella still loved him, well, it changed everything. And on top ofthat, Selena was being nosy about his personal feelings. Which alwaysirritated him. Charlie felt like his world was caving in. Actually,he didn't know how to feel.

"Why can't you tell me?"Selena asked. She'd never admit it, but Selena felt hurt. Offendedeven. Her best friend couldn't tell her. Tell her what? She didn'tknow, but she was determined to find out. She wouldn't budge untilCharlie told her.

"I just can't." he said. "Idon't know. It doesn't feel right. I'm sorry. I'll tell you when I'mready. Or when you're ready. I don't know anymore." He sighed."Now, can I go?"

Selena shook her head. "No.""No?" Charlie asked. "Selena you can't-" Selena stopped himmid-sentence. "I'm not moving until you tell me." She turned upher nose. "Selena-" Charlie started. "Not another word unlessit's what's bothering you." Selena said. Charlie furrowed his brow."Then I guess we're not moving." Selena was taken aback, but shedidn't let it show. "Fine." she said. "I guess we're not."

She and Charlie stood staring ateach other for what felt like forever. But finally, Selena gave in.

"Charlie please!" she begged."Tell me! It's killing me not knowing what's hurting you!" Tearswere in her eyes. "I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong."she said, voice almost in a whisper. She reached for his arm, but heresisted her touch. "Selena." he said. "You don't understand."Charlie stopped. "I-I..." he squeezed his eyes shut. "Agghh!"he yelled.

Selena took a step back. Shedidn't like it when her best friend was angry!

"Why are you being so nosy!"he yelled at her. "I have a private life, so what! Everyone does!"Charlie's anger turned to tears. "Selena..." he paused. He closedhis eyes, took a deep breath, then he lunged forward.

He shoved Selena to the groundand went out the door, slamming it loudly behind him.

Selena stared at the closed door,as if it could make him come back. Then, she burst into tears. Heshoved her! She buried her face in her hands. He physically tried tohurt her. She got up off the ground. Her whole body ached. But whathurt worse, was her heart.
