Wheels rumble against asphalt like thunder, each crack jolting the vehicle like lightning sending shocks to its passengers. The girl in the back seat clenched her grip on the roof handle tightening.
"Are you alright?" a gentle voice questions from the drivers seat
"I'm alive aren't I" the girl replies increasing the volume on her music, desperate to get to their destination.
The leather seats felt soft beneath her and the car has the new-car smell that everyone seemed to love but to her it was lacking. It was void of the comfortable scent she was accustomed to in the family car- the smell of her mothers rose-scented lotion, her brothers play-dough and her fathers pine tree air-freshener that reminded him of the cottage no matter where he was. Now they were gone, there would be no more long car rides to the cottage, now she was alone left with the new car smell and a move to a strange new place.
It would have seemed a pity to outside observers that she didn't see the beautiful sunset making an appearance outside her window, it would seem mother nature had a sense of irony that on such a horrid day the sunset was the most beautiful anyone had seen it in a while.
cars sped by, each driver impatient and too focused on their destination that even they, who were not blinking away tears on already puffy eyes as the girl was, didn't notice the breath-taking sunset, too focused on their destination that they were unobservant of the journey that would lead them there.
"look at that, doesn't that just prove wonderful things are to come" the woman driving the car asked, but the question fell on deaf ears as the girl she spoke to had her music blasting and had retreated into the comfort of her sweater.
