Mackenzie stood in the empty hallway her heart thudding loudly against her rib cage echoing over the silence. Her hands curled up tightly nails digging into her palms and her eyes tearing up as her mind raced wondering how to distinguish truth from the lies.

She leaned against a nearby wall the cold hard surface supporting her as she she reminded herself that she just needed to get through the day. A single pair of footsteps echoed through the empty hallway.

Mackenzie looked up and glanced at the figure walking in her direction. A tall boy with brown hair and perfect skin that seemed to glow walked toward her. "I think you dropped this" He spoke his voice smooth and melodic to her ears. He smiled at her a boyish half smile and handed her a schedule, his hand softly brushing against hers as he passed on the paper. "Thank you" She mumbled quietly, and suddenly made the connection as to where she had seen him before. He was the boy who had been laughing at the whole spectacle between her and Jason. She glanced at him

"I'm Alec" he spoke again and glanced down at her schedule smiling. "We have second and last class together" Alex looked at her curiously as he watched her lips form around her next words.

"oh, cool.." Mackenzie spoke slowly trailing off unsure what to make out of the boy's kind behaviour. "Don't worry, I don't bite" he grinned and then added "I'll see you around mac" Mackenzie looked at him confused "my names Mackenzie." She stated but she was sure he already knew that, "I know, but to me you're mac." With a wink in her direction he walked off in the opposite direction leaving Mackenzie to wonder who this boy was.

'Mac' she thought turning over the name in her mind, "I like that." The bell rang and as people filled the hallways Mackenzie rushed to find Aimee. Maybe this school isn't as bad as she originally thought. or maybe it was so much worse.

The day went by quickly after that each class blurring into the next and Mackenzie found herself looking forward to seeing Alec again and not quite sure why exactly that was. By the time Mackenzie arrived home that night, it was safe to say she but utterly and completely confused. But there was one thing she had concluded about the school due to the whispers and perfect looking students, something about the school just wasn't right.
