Was love still the motivation to this conquest? I could no longer tell...

I let the steaming drops of water crawl all over my skin absorbing the energy it gave off. I loved everything about a much-needed shower, not just the way it cleaned the skin but, the way it warmed up the should like a blanket, the way it rejuvenated the body, and if needed, the way it put you to sleep. I enjoyed it all.

When I had finished, I dug through my bag and to my luck, I found that I actually hadn't forgotten to pack pajamas.

"Thank god!" I threw on the black shorts and a random white tee shirt, placing my hair in a bun and walking out. This was sad, the closest thing I'd had to a vacation in a while was a run-down hotel room that I was sharing with a demon.

"How was your shower?"

"Fine, you should probably take one too." I scrunched up my nose pretending to be appalled by the stench he didn't have.

"Wow," he chuckled, "alright."

I plopped down on the bed with him now wondering how much he'd figured out about the map. I noticed that he'd drawn several lines that all seemed to lead up to the same place.

"Whats going on with this? Did you figure out where we're headed?"

"I've got a clue but, if I'm right, we really don't have a lot of time."

"Okay? Let me know what's up." I sat up in full attention mode.

"Alright," he fidgeted with his pen, "where to start... Okay look here, this is where we're located."

I nodded following his pen to the dot that was Labeled Siren peak.

"If I'm correct, and this is the portal that permits human passage for the living, we'd have until midnight tomorrow to get there."

"Okay. What's the issue? And why midnight?"

He took a deep breath rubbing his temples with frustration. "Jade, listen to me, we are here, we need to be over here." He placed his finger on the tip of what I assumed to be a mountain. "This alone is a four-day drive AT THE LEAST!"

"Then what are we supposed to do?"

"I'm trying to figure that out," he mumbled, traveling back into thought.

The extra lines are routes?

"Yes," he answered quickly, "I actually have a way that we could shorten this trip, but, you'd have to get some sleep now because we'd have to leave tonight."

"Tonight?" I wined.

"Yes damn it. Tonight or we don't get there."

"Fine, what's this idea?"

"Oh, you'll see."

I'd gotten about 3 hours of actual sleep when I felt Embers cold arms wrap around me. I was too tired to really understand what was happening but, I knew he was carrying me to the car. Once inside, he adjusted my seat so that I was still laying down and placed a blanket on top of me.

"I'll have to wake you up in an hour or so. Get as much sleep as you can."

I felt myself nod. As soon as he closed the door, I drifted back into my sleep letting my consciousness drift into another place...

It was cold and rainy, the wind from the storm was so strong that the trees that were large and pasted into the ground firmly were being yanked, some, holding on by just their thick roots. I tried my best to comprehend the situation but not to my surprise, I had no luck. I sat inside at a table on a small wooden chair that would creak every time I tried to move from it. I was stuck. Stuck in the chair watching the storm outside rip the grass from the ground. I could do nothing. Nothing at all...
