"Why?" Amaya repeated in a whisper.

"I don't know. I couldn't think about it and I didn't want to spoil the mood since I just got back."

"Kathrine Blain, we don't care, but a bit of heads-up might have been nice."

"Yeah, I-" I was about to say I'm sorry when Chris's house phone rang.

"Hello? Yes. She's fine. Okay. Okay. Yep. I'll tell her. Night Rick." Chris said into the speaker.

"What does he want?" May asked.

"You two home."

"Okay. Chris can I talk to you for a sec?" Amaya asked' dragging Chris to another room.

I wanted to calm down and get my thoughts in order before having to face May, Ricky or anyone else for that matter. I saw Chris's back door that led to the woods. I quickly and quietly got up and headed out back.

I walked for a while until I saw the tell-tale arrows on the trees. When I was a kids I had found a little clearing where the sun and moon always provided a lot of light. After about a week of heading there everyday after school, one day a boy was sitting there, not much older than me, but for my little kid mind, it was like he was 20 years older. Somehow I got up the courage to talk to him...well, more like I tripped and he hears the crash. He helped me up and just started talking to me like we were old friends. So, from then on we hung out everyday after school, and that is the story of how Chris and I met. Cheesy and crappy, I know, but at least I got to meet him.

Once I got to our clearing I sat down and rested my head and back against a rock. I looked up and saw beautiful stars and the moonbeams brushing the branches. I must have fallen asleep against the rock because next thing I knew, I was looking up into the same brown eyes that I had first seen in this little patch of light.

"Hey, push over." Chris said, nudging me.

"How long was I gone?" I asked, putting my head on his shoulder once he sat down.

"About 20 minutes."

"I'm sorry."

"Why didn't you tell us? At least Amaya or I."

"Because, the reason we got engaged was because...I got pregnant." I felt him stiffen up.

"How far along are you?"

"I was 22 weeks when-" My throat closed up, but I forced the words out, "I miscarried."

"Katie I-I'm so sorry." He said, pulling me into one of his famous hugs.

"I'm sorry for not telling you."

"Did the guy leave cause of the...incedent?"

"...Yes."
