Matteo's POV
I walk over to the nurses desk on the children's ICU ward and ask a nurse named 'Olivia' if she could send someone to set up a extra bed for Grace in Arloe's room. She agrees to send someone in the next few minutes so I head back to Arloe's room.As I'm walking towards his room I hear him and Grace talking, it catches my attention.
'You and your sister and cherished by me and your father! You are the best thing that ever happened to me and I love you more than life itself!' Grace says fiercely
'Do you love papa like that too?' Asks Arloe.
'Yes kiddo, I do.' She replies.
She loves me more than life itself, albeit the second half of that sentence is up in the air, she could be saying that to satisfy Arloe but she said 'Yes kiddo, I do' with so much conviction. I decide I need an hour or so to call in a few favours and leave the hospital.
I didn't give Arloe a kiss goodbye because I didn't want Grace to know I overheard their conversation, so I left.
Without saying goodbye.
Grace's POV
After Olivia had set up my bed in Arloe's room I caught a bit of sleep between Jackson's check ups and bandage dressing changes. I thought more about my feelings for Matteo and honestly? I truly meant what I said to Arloe.I'm tucking the blankets around Arloe when Jackson run through the halls, pokes his head in the room and says...
'Grace, I'm sorry but I don't have much time but I thought you should know...'
I head over to him so he can whisper the final words the urgency and look in his eyes shows he doesn't want Arloe to hear this...
'Matteo was in a car accident'
