Just a young gun with a quick fuse,
I was uptight wanna let loose,
Cassie sat up fast as she breathed heavily and tried to reduce the amount of sweat coming from her body. The nightmares we're getting worse.
'I'm such a quick fuse. I shouldn't be like this.'
I was dreaming of bigger things,
And wanna leave my own life behind,
Not a yes sir not a follower,
'I had so many dreams for the future, and now because of the Others I'll never be able to do any of them. I was gonna see Europe!'
She shifted uncomfortably in the seat. Nothing was as it should've been. She should've been backpacking through Europe with Sam and Ben, but now, the only reason Ben knew she existed was because of the war with the Others.
Fit the box fit the mold,
Have a seat in the foyer take a number,
I was lightning before the thunder,
This was nothing compared to what was to come. The war would rage on for years, and Cassie knew it.
She glanced over at her sleeping brother and the sleeping form of Ben Parish sitting next to him. She almost smiled at how protective he looked over someone who wasn't even his own family.
But the comfort only lasted a moment, everyone knew that this was just the lightning before the thunder.

Kids were laughing in my classes,
While I was scheming for the masses,
Cassie missed the days when all that she had to worry about was who she would sit with in the cafeteria and play with on the playground.
She missed the days when the most important thing was who say closest to the back of the classroom and who could get away with going to the bathroom the most.
Not all this war stuff.

She remembered that Sam had wanted to be a big star one day. He wanted to act and sing and dance like they did in the movies.
And now that couldn't happen.

Cassie heard some loud thundering in the distance, and some screams. Ben shot up and grabbed his rifle, while Sam looked around and whimpered, hiding behind Ben.
If Cassie hadn't been horrified by what was happening she would have smiled at how Sam had come to trust Ben so much.
But as she sat there, she could only think one thing.
'This is it. The thunder.'
