I glance at my clock. 9:30. Jacob's gonna be here in 30 minutes, and after what happened at dinner tonight, I'm not so sure I want to go anywhere with him. I mean, he has no right to put his nose in other people's business. What happened last year is my business and–"Tessa, Jacob's here!" Bella calls from downstairs. "He wants to talk to you!"
"Tell him to rot in hell!" I call back.
Then I go to the bathroom.
Jacob's POV
"She said rot in hell," Bella tells me, rolling her eyes. "I don't know why she hates you so much."
I sigh. "Me neither."
"Well, I'll just let you up there, okay? Just don't get her too mad."
I nod. "Thanks, Bells."
Tessa's POV
I'm washing my hands when I hear a loud knock on the door.
"Fuck off, Bella," I snap, locking the door. "Tell Jacob to go away."
"This is getting old." Jacob's voice. I groan. "Open up."
"Go away." I make sure my voice sounds low and dangerous.
I hear Jacob laugh. "You think this door is going to stop me?"
I don't reply. I press myself up against the back wall of the bathroom just as Jacob rams his body against the door, causing it to bang open, and it slams against the wall.
And now we're face-to-face.
"Hi," I say because this is actually really awkward.
He chuckles. "Hey."
I force out a laugh. "You said you weren't coming till ten. I don't even have my party outfit on yet."
He smiles. "Yeah, well, I just couldn't wait to see you."
I try not to blush at that. You hate Jacob. With those three words in my head, I say, "Your obsession with me is very unhealthy."
"I don't care. I love unhealthy."
We stare at each other for a minute before I burst out laughing. "That was so cheesy."
Now it's his turn to laugh. "See? Tessa Swan can be nice."
I roll my eyes. "But, seriously, I'm still mad at you for what you did at dinner tonight."
He sighs. "I knew you were going to bring that up."
I cross my arms. "What happened last year is none of your business."
"I know. And I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pressured you guys like that."
I nod, not really ready to accept his apology yet. "Yeah, you shouldn't have."
He frowns. "You hate me less now, right?"
"I never hated you," I admit. "I just didn't really like you. But now we're cool."
"Cool," Jacob says, and I smile. "So, will you tell me what happened last year? I mean, now that we're cool, you can totally trust me."
"Okay," I say, biting my lip. "It was the last summer I decided to go visit my mom. As you know, Charlie likes drink sometimes. So, one night, after my boyfriend broke up with me, I decided to try alcohol, too. I took my mom's car and drove to the nearest party, and drunk like a lot of vodka. I don't really remember much after that, but I do remember vandalizing my ex-boyfriend's house, screaming nasty things about him the whole time. The cops had to take me home, and Renee was furious. After that, my parents and Bella made sure not to let me out of their sights and I was grounded for three months." I take a deep breath. "But now they're finally starting to trust me again. I don't want to screw things up."
