"Drop the toilet paper now, young lady! Hands behind your back!"

I drop the toilet paper rolls, completely mortified. My revenge wasn't supposed to end like this. I knew I shouldn't have screamed out insults.

"You can't arrest me!" I cry. "This was supposed to be a harmless prank."

Then I feel handcuffs. First my right wrist, then my left.

"Let's go."

The cop arresting me practically yanks me over to his car as if I'm resisting–which I would if I didn't have any alcohol in me.

"Let me go! This is fucking stupid."

"Verbally confirm that you're the one who trespassed private property, vandalized things, and caused unnecessary disturbance to people trying to sleep."

The officer is tall and muscular, and I fight back the urge to call him hot.

"And why should I do that?" I question, trying to get on his nerves. "The constitution says I don't have to say anything without a lawyer."

He sighs. "Whatever. I already know you did it."

And then Cole, aka my ex boyfriend, and his parents come running out. Cole genuinely looks sad.

"Hi, Coley Boo!" I say brightly. "Guess what's happening to me? I'll give you a hundred guesses to figure it out."

Cole's mom sighs. "Tessa, can't you see that we had no other choice?"

If I can cross my arms right now, I would.

"I thought you said I was like a daughter to you," I snap. "You could've came out here and confronted me. You could've called my mom. Anything but this."

"Tessa, you're drunk," Cole's dad retorts. "We're just trying to teach you a lesson. Plus, because of you, we have a lot of cleaning up to do tomorrow."

"Gee, that has to be better than spending a damn night in jail. Thanks for the lesson you're trying to teach me. I really appreciate it."

Cole's mom frowns at my sarcastic remark. "Tessa, we care about you. We're just trying to end your bad choices before they end you."

That makes me laugh out loud.

And then Cole decides to speak.

"Mom, Tessa's right. This is taking things too far."

"You don't have a say in this, son," his dad says. "Either stay quiet or go back to bed."

"Tessa's getting arrested just because she was trying to get revenge on me for breaking her heart," Cole says, looking right into my eyes. "I don't think that's fair."

"I told you to stay quiet!" his dad yells. "Go back to bed!"

But he doesn't. He folds his arms and gives the cop the nastiest glare he can muster. Good for him.

Cole's mom brings her attention back to me as she says, "Being dumped is hard, but this wasn't the solution to your broken heart. You could've just ate ice cream and watched movies at home like a normal teenage girl."

I want to scream. "What, so I'm not normal just for wanting to get some pay back?"

"Pay back is never the answer to things like this."
