"Weep not for roads untraveled;

Weep not for sights left unseen;

And if you need a friend,

There's a seat here alongside me..."

"Sir...his B.P.'s dropping...."

"Sir..."

The nurses kept calling out to him in panic, but the doctor paid little heed to them. He had to get the clot in the patient's cerebrum. Cerebral clots were often the cause for seizure & consequent stroke. It was the surgeon's second surgical procedure of the day & this was a major one. He had been operating for the past 3 hours, without rest. He stood over the OT board, drill in hand, flanked by the OT nurses and resident surgeons who were assisting him in the procedure.

"Start a central line..", he instructed and immediately the nurses rushed to do the same. The patient was sinking before their eyes, but the doctor looked as cool as ice.

"Just a bit more..", he mumbled more to himself than anyone else, as his resident surgeons and the nurses looked on in amazement, "It's almost doneee...aannndd...there...There u go...all clot freed...Good to go..."

He lifted his eyes from the patient's brain after what seemed like ages.

"B.P.'s back upto normal...Regaining normal heart-rate...", read one of the nurses, "We've done it...sir...U've done it" she beamed.

The doctor merely smiled and got back to his patient, expertly closing the gaping cut on his head. Yet another successful surgery in the kitty.

Dr. Randhir Shekhawat, neuro-surgeon, the best in the country, had yet again managed to save a patient from a near-death situation.

"Alright guys...My work's done...Make sure he gets the best post-op care...And u guys..", he addressed his students, "Make sure that u get everything that happened in the procedure today in the charts. You will be graded on this..."

And so saying he left the O.T. in a hurry.

He wished he didn't have to do this surgery today. But the patient was serious and he couldn't avoid it. But right now, his only priority was to reach the gynaecology ward.
