"Mommyyyy! I want that oneee!!"
The sound of screaming and crying filled the entire gift shop for the third time today. A little boy, probably only 4 years old, tugged on his moms' arm while throwing a full on tantrum; his mother held an annoyed face, obviously embarrassed by her child.
"I told you, you can only have vanilla and JUST vanilla! Those other flavors have too much sugar!" She snapped.
I was at the back counter mixing stuff for one of our new ice cream flavors. I worked with two girls, Camila and Chloe. Camila was a really pretty girl, with flawless skin and blonde hair. She was kinda like the boss—she worked the register most of the time and came up with all the sweets we would sell.
Chloe was a real cutie, with her dark hair always in a fluffy mess and blush always on her cheeks. She helped me make and restock ice cream, and get shipments of ingredients.
We were all good friends and loved working together. But not when kids were crying and causing a scene like this...
"I don't want vanilla, I want chocolate cookie dough!!" The little boys' face was red and covered in snot and tears.
"I told you, that's too much sugar!!"
Camila faced the woman with a dull look, before slowly speaking.
"Ma'am... all of our flavors have equal amounts of sugar—"
"Don't be silly!" The woman interrupted. "With the amount of chocolate and cookie bits you shove in there. one scoop of ice cream alone could cause diabetes for someone as small as him!"
Camila made a face and glanced back at me and Chloe. We didn't know what to do either. Then, with an annoyed sigh, she opened the ice cream case.
"Alright, one vanilla cup coming up..."
She put one scoop of vanilla ice cream in a small cup, put in a spoon, then handed it to the woman. But as soon as the little boy got his hands on it, he screamed and threw the cup to the ground.
