Bec had told me to stay away from Amber, i know she was just worried about me but how could i? She was just so nice and i still had so many questions about her.

I pulled out my phone and began typing.

Me: hey where are you? come sit with us?

A: thanks :) but i am not going to talk to that Rebecca girl!

Me: we are sitting on the park benches on the oval. see you soon.

And with that i put my phone away and continued eating my vegemite sandwich.

It had been 5 minuted when i saw a figure walking towards us. I looked over at Bec and heard her mumble something like 'oh no'.

But i ignored it and waved her over.

"Hey girls" she said, smiling at me then giving Bec a death glare which she had beat Amber to.

"Come sit here" i said, patting the seat next to me.

"Lou, what is she doing here" Bec said in a deadly, warning tone, gesturing to Amber.

"She had no one to sit with, so i invited her over" i informed her calmly.

"When?" she replied

"When you were busy stuffing your face in your wrap" i said a little harshly and instantly regretting it.

The rest of lunch consisted of deep conversation between Amber and i and a lot of eye rolling coming from Bec.

"That was the worst day ever" she said as we were walking home in the cool air "i should've known when it rained this morning in the middle of summer." She spoke, looking up at the gloomy sky.

We were silent the rest of the walk home.

When we reached the front door she finally spoke.

"Lou? can i ask you something" she said, her voice holding sadness and a hint of anger.

"Anything Bec" i replied cautiously.

"when you agreed to stay away from Amber, you didn't really mean it did you? inviting her over for lunch wasn't just a one-time thing, was it?" she spoke, obviously feeling defeated as she hung her head.

i took a sharp breath then replied "no Bec. i want to know about her, become close to her. find out her side of the story" i whispered the last part.

"i'm never going to convince you am i?".

i just shook my head.

"ok, do what you need to do. but promise me one thing, promise me she won't come in between us" she said, her voice cracking on the last part.

"she's bad news and i know she will try, but you wont let her will you?" her voice barely a whisper.

i felt a lump in my throat and felt sympathy towards Becca, my best friend, always and forever.

"No, i won't let her" was all i replied as i held her hand, assuring her that i was always here.

"So, whats the deal with you and Bec?" i ask Amber taking another bite of my frozen yoghurt.
