Chapter 6 Nuriyah's P.O.V.
We set together on those cold, metal benches at the 'departures' terminal in the airport.
"I wasn't going to say anything, but I'm going to miss your cooking," I said to him teasingly.
"It's nice to know I'm so appreciated," he retorted.
Anne finally got back from check in.
"Did you pack an elephant?" Rodrigo asked rhetorically.
He can be such a brat sometimes, but most importantly, he's my brat. She took so long because she insisted on bringing her sewing machine with her. Even when I told her she'd have all the equipment she asked for.
"Very funny," said Anne irritatedly putting her hands on her hips and tapping her foot impatiently.
Seeing her annoyed, I stood up and put my rose gold backpack on. Oh fluff! I had no idea goodbyes could be so hard. Rodrigo stood up too.
"Okay, I guess I'll see you next month then..." I said wistfully, looking up at him.
Before he could reply, Anne, having looked at her watch and gasped: "Oh gosh, we're going to be late!"
"You guys can talk about when you're getting married and when you're going to have ten kids the next time you see each other!" she said, pulling me away to passport control, not even giving me a chance to wave back to him.
"You're a crazy chica, you know that?" I protested as we joined the queue.
"What, like the thought hasn't crossed your mind?" she retorted with a eyebrow raised sassily. I had no idea how to answer her.
"Oh! What are you going to watch? I hope they have all the new movies!" she prattled on excitedly as we waited in the slow-moving queue.
I, on the other hand was planning on sleeping and then waking up to pray Fajr and then going back to sleep until the next salaat time.
Our flight was going to leave in under an hour and the queue was quite long so I began to read a prayer: "La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kunto min az zalimeen."
It's what the Prophet Yunus (Jonah, may peace be upon him) read when he was in the belly of the whale. It always helps.
"What about food? Can we eat and drink on the plane?" she asked.
"Of course we can. But, I don't like plane food so, if we still have time, we can get some pancakes."
"I love pancakes!" Anne clapped her hands together happily. This was Anne's first flight. Gosh, I felt like a Mama explaining it all to her!
After passport control and the security check-in, we found our boarding gate. Luckily, ours was close to Starbucks. I wish there was a Fortaleza here. Don't get me wrong, I like Starbucks but I love Fortaleza since everything is Halaal. I ordered a hot chocolate and Anne ordered a Vampire latte- Starbucks special for Halloween.
We gulped down our drinks and went to sit by our gate. Anne was so jumpy she refused to sit. She really wanted to be the first person on the plane.
Ten minutes later, we were on the plane. It being her first flight, I let her take the window seat after putting our bags up and keeping down what was necessary.
I watched Anne. She was so fascinated by everything. She even asked me why there was a life vest under her seat.
We took a plane selfie.
"I'm going to put this on Instagram" she said.
"Please don't." I pleaded before her finger could press upload.
