I blinked.
I didn't know how to react.
I saw his mouth moving again. But heard no sound.
His expression turned sad and his eyes filled with tears.
Then again, I couldn't see clearly, as my own fogged up.
My ears left me as soon as I heard him apologize.
His mouth kept moving, probably to fabricate a story for his apology.
I shook my head. He stopped. Mid-sentence. He buried his face in his roughed up hands.
We stood there, frozen in time.
Snow fell on us.
He lifted his head up and with his big, brown doe eyes stared into mine.
It could be hard to believe, but they were once filled with cheerfulness and liveliness.
He once held not only his but our future in his hands.
I took a step closer. Hoping to feel the same spark I did the day I met him.
Nothing but tension filled the air.
He promised he would never let anyone hurt me.
I guess, he didn't count as anyone.
