Chapter 5

You and Max were talking the next day. She and Dustin were quick to warm up to people. Will and Mike were also talking.
"Are you okay? You seem a bit more panicked today," Mike whispered to Will.
"W-what? I'm fine. I promise," Will replied, turning to talk to Lucas and Dustin. Mike shrugged it off and turned to his girlfriend and started talking to her.
"How are you liking it in our party?" Max asked you. "Well, you're all definently different from the dickheads I used to hang out with."
"A good different?"
"Definently."
Max let out a sigh of relief. (You, El, and Max have a sleepover at your house while your parents are away that weekend.)
"So, (y/n), you like anyone?" Max asked you. You were all sitting in a circle on the ground in your bedroom.
"Hm, not really," you say. "El, who do you think she should date?" Max said, turning to El. "I don't know," El mumbled.
"Okay then...secrets?" Max said.
"Sure, I'll go first," you say, "so, I'm actually adopted! But apparently my biological mom doesn't even know I exist. She had fallen asleep while my twin sister was born. She didn't know she was having twins too, so when she already had my twin out for adoption, I had no where to go. So, I hadn't been adopted until I was around 12, but I'm not really sure. I was always kept in these rooms, left in silence."
"Wow, really?" Max said, shocked. El looked up at her.
"I'm sorry," El said. "No, it's okay."
"Okay, Max you're next," you say. "Okay, El you already know this one, but I have an abusive step dad and step brother. Billy is my brother's name. He's a dick, but I taught him to leave me alone," Max said.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! How'd you teach him though?" You asked.
Max and El looked at eachother. "I have my ways," Max said.
"Okay, El?" You and Max turned to El.
"I am also adopted. If you didn't know, I'm the Cheif's adopted daughter. I spent the first decade of my life without a dad, and now I am very thankful to have one. And, Will is my step brother because his mom and my dad got married. So, life is pretty good."
"That's cool!" You said.
Max had already known this, so she just nodded.
You all were more relaxed with each other.
