Jace was awoken by a loud scream, that echoed of the walls of the institute. He jumped out of bed and grabbed his seraph blade, and ran out of his room. He followed the sound of whimpers to his Parabatai's room. Confused and worried, Jace raised his blade and gripped the door knob tightly, slowly turning it.

Jace pushed the door open and the sight he saw brought a tear to his eye and nearly made him drop his blade. There, right in front of him, lay the strong, independent man he called his older brother, reduced to a sweaty, whimpering mess. Carefully placing his blade down on Alec's bedside table, Jace walked slowly up to the edge of the bed, leaning over to check on his Parabatai.

Alec's hands were clenched so tightly that blood poured from his palms. Terror and heartbreak were the only things that Jace could read from his face. Whimpers of pain escaped his lips.

"Hey, Alec?" Jace questioned quietly, softly shaking the older boys before him. When he got no response, he shook harder, and harder, his voice getting louder and louder.

Nothing would wake the terror-stricken man, and that scared Jace more than anything. Soft mantras of "Magnus, no!" escaped Alec's mouth.

Out of no where, Alec's back arched and a scream of pure pain ripped its way out of his mouth. Jace had never heard anything so heartbreaking. The door slammed open and in rushed Izzy, terrified for her brother, much like Jace.

"What's going on with him?" She cried, tears beginning to collect in her eyes. She gasped and chocked on a sob when Alec screamed again.

Tears were streaming down both of their faces. Unsure of what to do, Jace grabbed hold of Izzy's hand and led her over to her brother, placing her hand on his, him doing the same to Alec's other hand. Alec began muttering about Magnus again.

"Izzy," Jace sat up suddenly. "Call Magnus! Call him NOW!"

Izzy jumped to her feet and rushed to the phone, dialling Magnus' number as fast as she could.

"Hello, Pumpkin!" She heard him exclaim on the other end. "What do i this pleasure?"

"I-its Alec, Magnus. We can't wake him up," she tried not to sob as she heard him scream again. "He needs you."

"Don't worry Iz, I'm on my way," Magnus assured.

"Isabelle!" A voice exclaimed behind the hurting, pacing teen.

"Magnus! Quick! Follow me!" With that, Magnus and Izzy ran down the hall to Alec's bedroom, a route Magnus knew all too well.

After arriving outside his room, they both burst in to find Jace sitting next to the oldest Lightwood with tears streaming down his face, able to feel his Parabatai's pain but unable to figure out its source or cure it.

"Please!" Jace said, horsely, his voice cracking. "Help him."

After hours of magic, Alec had finally calmed down enough for Jace to wake him up. When he did, Alec's arms locked tightly around Jace's neck. Soft sobs filled the room as Alec cried into his Parabatai's shoulder, a mantra of 'your alive. Thank the angel' was all that could be heard in the otherwise silent room. Izzy ran over and jumped straight into the group hug, Alec welcoming her instantly. Magnus sat off to one side, until Jace looked at him and beckoned him over.

Magnus sat on the edge of the oldest Lightwood's before being pulled into the hug by strong, trembling arms, the arms of his lover, his best friend, and his soulmate. A soft smile appeared on his face when he realised that Alec's family, his family, was safe once again.
