6: "Or I might have to kill you"

When I wake, the spot that used to be inhabited by Elias is now empty. I sigh. Rubbing my eyes so that I could see clearly, I look around, searching for Elias. I sigh again, having not found him. Sitting on my bed, my eyes and nose drift to the nightstand, which had pancakes, eggs, and bacon on a fancy plate, with orange juice in an equally fancy wine glass. The sight and the smell made my stomach rumble in response. Then I looked at the orange juice and realized that I really have to pee. Not like, " oh I just woke up and I need to normally release the useless waste," it was a little more along the lines of, "holy mother-trucker dude, I have to pee so bad, I might piss my pants" thing. So I ran to the bathroom, trying to open the door, only to have my hand on the handle, but not turning it in time, so instead of bursting into the bathroom, I slammed right into the door.

"Holy mother of balls!" I cry out, clutching my wrist, that I totally forgot was injured.  But I soon recover because, dude, I have to pee, and open the door. I do my business, (not that it's any of your business) and as I'm washing my hands, a firm, confident knock pierces the silence in the room.

"Coming! Hold on a minute!" I shout. After drying my hands and inspecting my wrist, I walk over to the door and open it to reveal none other than Elias. He is wearing jeans with a fitted green shirt and a black leather jacket. His hair is a damp mess, so he had obviously taken a shower. He had his arm leaning against the outer door frame, waiting patiently for an invitation. Elias didn't have a very happy expression on his soft face.

"Hi." I say with a smile, and wave stupidly. He laughs, (YES!)  and shakes his head. "How did you sleep? And did you eat your breakfast I left you?" He made me breakfast... Elias. Made. Me. Breakfast. I'm going to freak out. I hope he didn't poison it. Instead I say, "Good, thanks to you, and not yet. Though, I'm  two seconds from just slamming the door in your face so I can eat it." He laughs again. Ah, I'll never get over the sound.

"Or you could invite me in so we can talk while you eat it?"

"Why do I have invite you in? Can't you just walk in?" I ask, so confused. Then a joke and an old tale of undead creatures that couldn't cross a threshold unless invited in by the owner, comes to me. "Are you... a vampire?" I take a step back with my hands held out. Elias face looks so serious and doesn't deny it, so that must mean... "You can't tell anyone." He says. "Or I might have to kill you."

I step further away from him. If I hadn't gone to the bathroom, I might've pissed myself, though I think I tinkled just a little.

Elias suddenly burst out in a fit of laughter. I probably look so horrified. He walks into my room with ease, moving towards me, but I'm so confused and scared right now, so I back way more.

"Adri! I... was... just... joking! You should've... seen your face!" He says between his laughing. "Vampires don't exist. At least, that we know of."

I smack his arm. "Douche." I call him. "Oh, I hate you so much! More than I already did. I'm just going to eat my food now, butthole." I stomp away defiantly to where my food was waiting for me. I sit and start eating. After a couple of bites and Elias' looking at me with amusement written on his face, he walked over and sat next to me.

"I'm sorry." He says.

I raise my eyebrow. "Hey. You're stealing my trademark. That's not okay." Then I raise my fork that has pancake on it and point it at him. "And no one steals my trademarks."

He puts his hands up as if to say 'I give up, you're the Queen!' Okay maybe not queen, but somewhere along those lines. Instead, with one hand over his heart, and the other in the air, he states, "I hear-by declare that I will no longer steal trademarks from Adri- Er, I mean, Adrian."

I smile. "Good. Now you need to be my bodyguard or something and defend my honor so no one will take my trademarks." I say jokingly. Then I add, " and it's Adri to you, young man." Ugh. I sound like my mother.

My mother.

Arian.

I suddenly lost my appetite. I place the plate on the table, and pull my knees up to my chest, resting my chin on them. I sigh.

"I miss them. So much." I whisper.

"I know you do. I'm sorry." He slides closer to me and puts me in his arms. "I wish things could be different. And that I didn't have to kidnap you for your father."

"Me too."

"Ya know," he starts. "Your father has your best interest at heart."

I roll my eyes. "Yeah, because kidnapping your daughter is a good idea. Also going along with the law of kidnapping a girl against her will at any time is just the best idea ever made. Father of the freaking year award."

"No you're not listening to what I'm saying." He exclaims. "Your father only enlisted me to kidnap you, to save you. Abbadon was going to take you. He knew I was going to be able to get the job done, and done quietly, without him finding out."

"So," I say slowly. " What you're saying is that, my father- Kieran- who left me, his family, saved me by sending you- Elias- to kidnap me because you're, like, the best at doing that type of stuff?"

"Yup." He says popping the p.

I nod slowly, processing.

"I wish I told you last night. Hell, even when I was bringing you to see him." He sighs. "It was wrong. I'm sorry."

I shake my head. "No. It's okay." I stand, as well as Elias.

"Listen. I think we should... I don't know. Talk about things. Get to know each other?"This is crazy. What am I saying? I'm about to take it back when Elias says, "I would love that. I'm serious. You intrigue me, Adri." We smile at each other. We sit in silence for a while, but when we finally say something, we say the same thing at once.

"Where are we going-?"

"Where are we going-"

We make eye contact and double over in laughter.

Elias stops, still smiling. "It's up to you where we go. Your father hasn't asked for you yet. He decided it would be a good idea to give you some space."

I eye him suspiciously. "Him or you?"

He sighs. "Me." He smiles sympathetically. "If it makes you feel better, I knew he was going to want to talk to you immediately when you woke, but I convinced him to give you some space. So I suggested that I could give you a tour of the base."
