The crash of metal sounded in your ears, Hvitserk's sword clashed with your axe. Both of you possessed a smile, revealing the thrill that buzzed across your body.
Sigurd continued to watch on while Ubbe and Ivar practiced their archery. Some would think Ivar would grow up to be useless, but he proved the people of Kattegat otherwise.
When Hvitserk tapped his sword against your choice of weapon, you flickered your gaze toward Ivar.
It was a secret, it would all be a secret. How he would climb into your bed, willingly submissive to your sexual actions. He would moan your name, beg for more, then cuddle up to your side once over. He was soft and sweet, however that was only in the presence of you. You were close with all of his brothers, but Ivar was... Special.
When he would wail in pain, far from Kattegat, in a hut only you two knew of. You would listen in to his mumbled prayers to be normal, to wake up one day and be able to walk, run, swim. Slowly, your heart would break as he begged you to make it stop, distract him even if it done no good, it did work to an extent when both his parents passed. He needed the warmth of familiarity. You made him feel loved, like he was worthy of a woman like you, a strong shieldmaiden.
"Are you coming to England with us?" Hvitserk asked, draping his arm over your shoulders in the process.
This didn't threaten Ivar, due to you normally speaking of his brother as a friend, like the others. For once, a girl only had eyes on him.
"And not avenge your father? I would be a fool to stay here" you said.
"Atta' girl" He smirked while punching your arm playfully before he walked away.
Looking to Ivar, you noticed hair had grown, it was a random thought for the time. Therefore, you added it to things you would do later that night.
__________
"Are you sure you're not secretly a man?" Hvitserk asked, joking around as you all sat on the beach. You needed this day, to just relax, forget the crazy world you lived in.
Flames flickered and danced before you as you all sat around it. The sky was growing darker with each passing minute until the sun could no longer illuminate your features, only the orange fire.
"I think I would know that every time I took a shit",
"Well you do act like one",
"And talk like one" Ubbe mumbled, but not low enough, causing everyone to erupt into laughter. All except Ivar, only a faint smile blessed his siblings and you.
Suddenly, you jumped Ubbe from behind and tackled him to the ground, rolling amongst the sand as the waves crashed against the shore.
"Okay, okay, break it up..." Hvitserk laughed while he was assisted by Sigurd to separate you both.
When the jokes died, and silence filed in. You sat beside Ivar, your legs hugged to your chest while you rested your head on his shoulder.
"What if one of us dies?" You wondered out loud. At this, you managed to steal all attention onto yourself.
"You won't die" Ivar reassured.
"Says you, you'll just be sitting in your little carriage" Sigurd scoffed, making you roll your (E/C) orbs.
"But he'll be going straight in, despite being a cripple. When I can picture you cowering" you smirked. That had shut him up, but Ubbe carried on.
"We'll protect you",
"Then who will watch your backs?",
"Think of it as a circle, you'll watch Ivar, Ubbe will watch you, Hvitserk will look out for Ubbe and Ivar for me and me for Hvitserk... Simple" Sigurd announced.
"You don't make a good job at making it seem so" you huffed, to hear another wave of chuckles. Your heart beat was calm in this instance. Somehow you had forgotten of the war looming over your heads.
__________
Through the night, you all slept under the stars. When you made sure the rest were asleep, you cuddled up to Ivar and traced idle patterns against his chest.
"We won't die..." Ivar reinforced, and that's all you needed to hear. Even if you held him in his hardest times, you knew he could be there when needed as well.
