Jigoku: The Unknown World

Chapter Two - First Hunt

The morning was cold. There was no birds, nothing. The room blocked out all outside sound so it was silent when inside and no one was talking.

"Doing OK? No one feels very good after the first night."

"It's weird Bono, the bed is really comfortable, yet I feel like I just had the worst nights sleep I've ever had."

"That happened to all of us, we think it's because we just slept in an unknown place for the first time. But, don't worry on that right now, get your equipment ready, we head for the Lost Wood today."

"All right! I've been itching to show the new guy how good I am with my staff!"

"Cool it Hima, you're a little too exited"

"Can it Azala, we all know you want to show off a little too" Azala just scoffed, and blushed, slightly stepping back.

"Anyway, I say we head out immediately, the day only lasts for so long. What do you think Shank?"

"Heck ya! I wanna get some more kills on my card!" he said to Kilik as he equipped his gauntlets.

"Well alright then! Let's be off."

There was a cool prick in the air. Other than Hima's humming and Shank's exited huffing the woods were pretty calm, not something you'd expect in woods filled with monsters.

"It's too hot out"

"It's not that hot, Hima, you're just lazy."

"No i'm not! I just wanna be there already, the suspension is killing me. Do you feel ready to kill your first monster Shin?"

"I don't think i'll be ready to kill anything, but i'm definitely ready to learn how the world works and what it takes to survive in it."

"Well put kid, look there's some slimes in that clearing." As the party walked out of the tree line into a small field there were three green slimes jumping around.

"Alright! stab it Shin!"

"Hush Shank, let Bono tell him what to do."

"Fine, but he's just gonna stab it in the end."

"Haha it's a little more to it than that. Alright Shin, have you practiced swinging your weapon at all?"

"Yeah, a little bit."

"Good, now there's two different things you can do when fighting a monster. First, there's just normal attacks, swinging your weapon or 'stabbing it' like Shank said. But, then there's abilities. You get abilities as you level up, and you can spend your points to level up your abilities. If you open your menu there's an abilities section where you can see what abilities you currently have and what they do. I opened up my menu, scrolling past equipment and status I saw abilities just like Bono said. I opened it and saw that all there was were the words 'Forceful Jab'.

"There's one right there, it's a simple attack ability."

"Great, alright that's about all there is to it. Don't forget that you can also use items in battles too. Here, I have some extra potions you can have until you can start getting your own items from the Base. Potions are a healing item that regains your HP."

"Thanks, alright I think i'm ready." With a pat on the back from Bono and a big thumbs up from Shank I raised my halberd and walked towards the slime. It had eyes that were blankly staring at me once it noticed my presence and began hopping towards me. As it got closer I sliced down as hard as I could hitting the slime right on the head, the red bar above its head lowered a small amount, but not much. The slime simply shook it off and lunged at me hitting my right shoulder. The pain was immense and I howled in pain dropping my halberd.
