Jigoku: The Unknown World

Chapter Six - Albion

"Ha!" Alexander jabbed his lance into a giant tree with a face and arms and legs called a Treant. The monster howled as it was defeated.

"Nice skills, I didn't know that stick would be so powerful!"

"It's a lance!"

"Lance, stick, to me it's all the same. Nothing beats a mighty sword!" Bono thrust his sword and stabbed it into the ground with a mighty thrust.

"Ok, swords are cool, but I can't help that."

"What do you mean?"

"My class is dragoon, they only use lances."

"Dang, it must be hard not getting any say in your class, using whatever you're told to use."

"A little, but we make due with what we were picked." Alexander grabbed the reigns attached to his horse and pulled it as he continued moving. "We weren't given the choice of what we were meant to do, but instead of pouting you can choose to embrace what we have. That was something the first king always said."

"He sounds pretty cool"

"Oh you bet! The first king was our hero. Without him stepping up to lead us we could easily have all died and things could have been chaotic if it wasn't for his order."

"Sounds to me like the perfect person to become a king."

"You're right Kilik, though he's not the one we're heading to meet."

"That's right, you're going to meet his descendant."

"Is the king's father still around?"

"Ha, you're kidding right?" Bono got a very strange look on his face. Like nothing in the world could have made him think that Alexander would respond to such a normal question that way.

"What do you mean?"

"You mean you don't know yet? Geez you guys have been here at least a little while right?" Alexander looked at me and Azala. After a moment of all of us just staring at him blankly he sighed. "Wow so you don't know. We can't reproduce here."

"Wait what?" It was Azala's turn to shout.

"You heard me."

"But that would defy all logic."

"I know it does, but nothing in this world makes much sense does it? All i'm saying is people have tried and throughout the entire time us humans have been here even back to when the first king and queen tried to have an heir no one can reproduce, no one gets pregnant."

"But, why would that be?"

"Don't know kid, but i'll tell you one thing, it sucks."

"So how was the new king chosen every time?"

"The previous king chooses someone he deems worthy of becoming the next king, and appoints them as the heir."

"Wait so wouldn't everyone end up dying eventually and without being able to reproduce there would be no one left?"

"People keep popping up. I know you guys have seen it, did you all wake up in that room at the same time?" We all thought on that as it started to make more sense. Finally Bono spoke up.

"No, I woke up there first and a month later someone else did. Then every month someone new would wake up there until Shin here was the last one."

"See, that's why we haven't died out. Every now and then more people suddenly just wake up here that weren't here the day before. So even though we aren't reproducing there is still people."
