Sliverstone took her place beside Nightwhisper in the warriors' den. Tension had already been present; the dark warrior knew there was something on Sliverstone's mind she wanted to talk about. And she was right.
I'm going to do this. It's not right Breezepaw can't be a warrior because if it. If I can't be a warrior because of my love for Nightwhisper, Bramblestar would be losing a much needed warrior. The silver she-cat coughed awkwardly, "Nightwhisper?" She liked the way her name rolled off her tongue.
The dark warrior shifted uncomfortably. "Yes, Sliverstone?"
Sliverstone swallowed. Here goes. "Do you think it was wrong of Bramblestar to keep Breezepaw an apprentice... just because she liked she-cats?"
Hesitant, Nightwhisper replied, nothing giving away emotion in her brilliant, dark blue eyes, "I do believe it was unexpected, but Bramblestar's our leader, we can't go against that." Sliverstone winced remembering her demands towards her leader only a couple days ago. Was she ungrateful for her name?
"But do you think Breezepaw's worthy?" I have to warm up to my confession.
"Of course, but we're her best friends, we have bias. Bramblestar can't see what we see, and he's only skiing what he thinks is best for his Clan." She's trying to avoid the question. Sliverstone's heart began to race. I have to ask her directly...
"Nightwhisper... do you think... liking another she-cat is... wrong?" Nightwhisper knew it was coming yet her eyes couldn't help but widen in surprise.
Avoiding her friend's gaze, she mumbled, "I don't think it's wrong, but I don't believe it's right either." Sliverstone felt a sudden annoyance deep inside her. She's not answering me! She stifled a snarl of irritation and took a breath to calm down. We're not going anywhere. The only way... I have to tell her now.
"I like you, Nightwhisper." The dark warrior flinched and stared at the white-faced warrior. Sliverstone shocked herself at how direct she had been. "Sorry, I meant... uh—" Sliverstone scrambled over words while the dark gray she-cat had her gaze locked onto hers.
The silver warrior sighed in frustration. "Remember what I told you about Duskpaw and Breezepaw?" Nightwhisper merely nodded, still at a loss for words. "I don't want this to end like that. I don't want you to hate me. I just had to tell you. If you don't feel the same way, please let us forget this moment and we can continue as friends." Sliverstone forced a smile. "And only friends." She felt her throat tighten.
Nightwhisper placed her paw on her friend's shoulder. She was trembling. "Sliverstone..." Her voice quivered. She's about to cry! Suddenly, the dark warrior sent all her weight on the silver warrior, her head resting on the startled she-cat's chest.
Sliverstone felt her shaking violently as tears rolled down her chest fur. "Sliverstone, I'm going to die."
