P.T paces back and forth in the small dressing room, stopping every so often to catch a glimpse of his appearance in the vanity's mirror. "Okay, deep breath Phin. You've got this." P.T says under his breath, brushing his soft brown hair away from his face. "All you have to do is walk out onto the stage and present the winners. It isn't that hard." He says, continuing his pep talk. "This is the opportunity of a lifetime so just enjoy it. I mean this is the freaking Oscars!"
A knock at the door draws his attention away from his worries. "Come in," P.T responds politely. The door creaks open to reveal the producer's assistant. "Excuse me, Mr. Barnum, you are needed on stage now." She says with a meek smile. P.T nods in response, flashing his brilliant white smile back at her and turning back to the mirror quickly. He adjusts his black tie and runs his hands down the front of his tuxedo, smoothing out any wrinkles.
P.T then follows the assistant backstage to the producer of the awards show. The producer speaks up and starts directing P.T when they approach her. "When you are called out, walk onto the stage and meet Ms. Hallet in the center. Link arms with her and escort her up to the podium. From there, just read off of the teleprompter. Do you need me to repeat anything, Mr. Barnum?" P.T shakes his head and responds with, "No, thank you very much, ma'am."
Noticing the nervousness in his voice, the producer lays a gentle hand on his shoulder. "You will do fine Mr. Barnum, I promise. Place a smile on that face of yours and you'll do amazing" P.T nods in response and takes a steadying breath in. He puts a smile on his face and smooths out his coat once again. "Thank you very much, ma'am." She nods and goes to talk with Ms. Hallet about the arrangments. P.T can hear the cheers of the crowd as the recipient of the Best Actress award makes her way on stage(according to the presenters, the recipient is actress Emma Stone for her stellar performance in 'La La Land'.)
After Emma's acceptance speech, someone pushes P.T forward and tells him to go out onto the stage. As he walks out onto the stage, he hears someone announce his name and Charity Hallet's. "Please welcome Charity Hallet, the world-renowned ballroom dancer in the Broadway show 'Starlight', and P.T Barnum, known for his extraordinary show in Las Vegas, "Barnum and Carlyle." He catches the eye of Charity and flashes a white smile her direction. She returns the smile, her beautiful pale blue dress fluttering at her ankles and her silver heels clicking on the wooden stage.
The two celebrities meet in the center on the stage, applause surrounding them. P.T offers his arm to Charity, a smile still on his face. Charity smiles back, linking her arm in his, resting her delicate hand on his covered bicep. The two walk slowly up to the podium, which holds the Academy Award for Best Costume. When the two reach the podium, Charity untangles her arm from P.T's, smiles and reads off of the teleprompter saying,
"Costumes are an essential part of the development and portrayal of characters within a film." P.T quickly follow up with, "These amazing artists did an exceptional job at creating costumes that matched with the plot and time period of their respective piece." Together, the two performers read from the teleprompter. "These are the nominees for Best Costume."
The screen above the stage plays above the two performers, presenting the nominees: Collen Atwood for 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them', Joanna Johnson for 'Allied', Madeline Fontaine for 'Jackie', Consolata Boyle for 'Florence Foster Jenkins' and Mary Zophers for 'La La Land'. After the video, which named the costumes artist, the films name and a snippet of the film, P.T reads off of the teleprompter in front of him. "And the Oscar goes to . . ." Both P.T and Charity read off the card in front of them simultaneously. "Collen Atwood for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them!!"
