I woke up the next day with an unsettling feeling, curiosity is not something I cope with easily. I can't get Cameron and Mrs. Dallas out of my head. The way he was on his knees crying next to the hospital bead broke my heart. And trust me, I have seen plenty of saddening sights in this hospital.
I sat up, pondering how to settle this uneasy feeling. I stood up, at last, and stumbled out the door to find Clarice on the other side.
"Where do you think you are going young lady?" she said as I tried to make my way around her.
"Just for another walk."
"Nurse Jennet told me she saw you at the check-in center last night. Please don't tell me you're doing what I think your doing."
"Jennet is delusional. And trust me, I am just going for a casual walk. Nothing sneaky."
She laughed at my remark as I swiftly turned on my heel and headed for room 216.
As I was only feet from the room, I decided that maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Maybe I should let them live their life and not bud into their problems.
I turned around, only to find myself bumping into someone.
I nearly jumped out of my skin. I collected myself, but nearly fainted as I recognized the person.
"Looking for something?" Cameron asked.
I observed his appearance as I tried to scramble words into a sentence.
His eyes were red and puffy, which I would assume was from crying, and under his eyes were big bags that made him look as if he hadn't slept in days. Underneath the redness, I could see his chocolatey brown eyes that managed to glisten, even in these dull hospital lights. His tightly fitted white T-shirt, defined his undeniable muscles. I nearly drooled at the sight when I realized he was waiting for an answer.
"Uh... um... I was... uh ... just um... just walking around." I said much too nervously.
He managed to smile a weak yet present smile, even though I could see in his eyes that he was in no state of mind to smile.
"I'm Cameron. Cameron Dallas."
"Hi. I'm Amanda. Amanda Desner."
There was a short period of silence. However, there was the persistent beeping of the machines in room 216.
The noise instantly brought sadness to Cameron's face as he muttered "Excuse me" and walked past me into room 216.
I stood there for a minute, thinking. Wondering what could have happened to Mrs. Dallas?
I began to walk back to my room, pushing the thoughts to the back of my head. I passed Jennet and gave her a glare, only for her to glare back. I don't really know why, but we didn't like each other. At all.
As I was just about to enter my room, Clarice gestured for me to enter her office. As I entered, I could see the distraught look on her face in the way she furrowed her eyebrows.
"Amanda? We need to talk. It's about your treatment..."
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I realized what she was about to propose.
"It's time to start your chemotherapy."
