Lance was at his breaking point. Wait, make that his shattering point. Everything was colliding into this massive mess that overpowered him. He was constantly flittering around isolating himself, always so close to giving up. And even despite crying his heart out to Hunk (something that Lance was certain was a cure for him) that feeling carried on haunting him. Sure fighting in an intergalactic space war took its toll, every single entity aboard the Castle of Lions could tell you that, but he knew that his latest series of mental breakdowns weren't related to the ever looming doom that rested upon his shoulders (something that grew stronger with each passing battle). Or the fact that he so desperately craved garlic knots. Or even his latest longing of being back at the Garrison, back on Earth. No. This was all due to a recent half breed shaped hole in his life. The lack of a grumpy, 2000's emo with stupid hair and an even stupider face who always made Lance feel slightly more content even if it was only for a short while.
That was what stemmed his latest mood swings. Keith. Or more likely Keith leaving that is. Lance couldn't help but feel like Keith's departure to join the Blade of Mamora was because of his own pathetic insecurities about his place on the team. Keith already had enough issues, being flung from the Red Paladin to the Black Paladin was stressful enough. And then getting chucked head first into being the leader of the only hope left for so many species stuck under Zarkon's grasp added to that was enough for any one to want to scream and maybe break a few things. But then to have you right hand man admit that he was lost about being a paladin just after you loose your place on the team is even worse. If he had only kept his mouth shut then Keith would still be here with them. Keith would never have left them at all. He would still be able to get into fights with the hothead. Laugh at the lopsided smirk Keith wears when he's about to fuck shit up. Or the way his lips curl slightly when ever he fights, something that Keith was brilliant at and have every god damn reason to be happy about (in Lance's opinion that is) . He'd get to see the same soft smile he noticed across the lounge when Keith laughed at Lance's "cool ninja sharpshooter" statement. The same smile Keith wore when he backhandedly complimented him and insulted him at the same time. The same smile Keith shared when Shiro returned....
"Ah quiznack!" Lance groaned his head hit the wall. "Come on Mcclain stop thinking about that Mullet for one second. Get yourself back together." he mumbled as he put on his familiar mask of confidence and flair before leaving his room. He calmed his breathing down slowly as he made his way towards the dining room. Hunk would be declaring through the comms any minute that breakfast was ready, which usually meant that Hunk had made something other than food goo (which was seen as Coran's forte). Missing breakfast was considered a crime on the ship to Lance. Hell, missing anything that Hunk cooked was a crime worthy of death. He collapsed in his seat a sigh leaving his lips, the chair to the left of him devoid of any markings that showed Keith used to sit there. It felt unusually cold without Keith next to him. The sort of coldness that Lance despised. He was so caught up in his head that Lance didn't notice that Allura has started talking until she was talking directly to him.
"Lance, is everything okay? You been slightly out of sorts recently and we're all worried." Allura spoke to Lance as if he was a feather about to drift away. No hope of him returning.
"Oh yeah I'm cool Princess. No need to worry your pretty little head over me." Lance smirked and shot his iconic finger guns. Allura just rolled her eyes but Lance could see that Hunk had noticed his usually Lancey Lance charm was missing. But instead of Hunk confronting him right there, he gave Lance a look which said "You're going to tell me the second this is over Mcclain." A look which Lance knew all to well. That's the reason why Hunk is a brother to him. He knows Lance's boundaries and will never push him while he's with others. A quality that Lance respects the hell out off and is entirely grateful for. Lance just nodded solemnly in Hunks direction and turned his attention back to Allura's conversation. His spork barely touching the weird alien concoction that Hunk had probably spent the last varga or so preparing. He glanced towards the seat near Allura where Shiro should have been sat. His mind so far up in the darkness consuming him that he hadn't noticed that the other piece of eye-candy on the ship (minus Allura and uh one-half alien) was missing.
