It was an odd entity to be seen in the ruins of Old Russia. Its metal exterior was not rusted, nor broken, the light in the center shining a bright, calming blue. The machine floated and weaved between broken ruins of what were once cars, searching for something.
It was certain they were here. In Old Russia, at least. It had traveled long and far, and now was not the time to stop, not when they were so close. It shined its light on a long-dead skeleton, falsely hoping for a second that they might be its quarry. But no, the journey must continue. The little machine searched on.
Unbeknownst to it, however, another creature watched its movements carefully. Unlike the machine, they were most definitely alien, with an arachnid-like face with four eyes and many large horns. In two of its four arms it held a formidable pulse weapon. It spoke to its comrades in an alien tongue, and set off in pursuit of the machine.
It, however, simply continued its search, until it came upon a seemingly desolate space among the wasteland. There, it found Light. This being it had found contained more Light than the machine had ever seen before. "Is it possible?" It spoke. Could they be the rumored legend it had heard of?
The machine expanded in an orb of blue light, concentrating its energy into reviving this being. As it worked is magic, more and more features began to come into view on the still body. "There you are."
It was like watching decomposition in reverse at triple the speed. Rust melted away from the being's metallic body. It was an Exo, an old female model, their face masked by an old helmet, although a few breaks allowed it to see faded orange metal with some blue detailing around the face as they were soon closed and good as new. Rips and tears in old, weather-worn clothes were sewn up magically. Soon, the once-dead body began to stir.
"Guardian. Guardian? Eyes up, Guardian." Mechanical eyes blurred and blinked open and closed. In a moment, the figure looked up at a small, white object floating in front of them. "It worked, you're alive!" It spoke without a mouth. How could it do that? Pre-recorded voice messaging? "You don't know how long I've been looking for you." It said.
"Wait, who are you? What are you?" The Exo asked, tilting her head.
"I'm a Ghost. Actually, now I'm your Ghost. And you... well, you've been dead a long time." Dead? she wondered, glancing down at her hands covered by gloves. The last thing she remembered... she couldn't even remember her last memory.
"You're going to see a lot of things you don't understand," Ghost continued, causing her head to look back up. Suddenly, an animalistic roar echoed through the ruins. "This is Fallen territory. We aren't safe here. I have to get you to the City." He said as if she processed and understood everything he said.
"Who are the Fallen? What kind of City?" she asked, standing up to follow Ghost.
The machine turned back. "Hold still," he said, disappearing in a flash of light. The Exo looked around before Ghost's voice spoke in her head. "Don't worry, I'm still with you. We need to move, fast. We won't last very long out here."
