At dawn I wake,
In the forest my new home,
Observing the world around me,
I question my surroundings,
My odd feathers my beak,
My appearance starts to astound me,

My arms and legs have vanished,
My voice speaks no words,
I search my thoughts for answers,
But is barren like the desert,

Confused, I scream for help,
But hear no reply,
Agitated, worried and afraid,
My only friend, the sky,

I reach out to my only friend,
She welcomes me with open arms,
Her messenger blows to raise me up,
To the only home with no bars,

We observe the world together,
A green blanket stretched accross the floor,
Rivers and streams reflect sunlight,
Oh I wish there was more!

We danced in the sky My friend and I,
Till the golden circle turned pink,
Then we flew over something familiar,
So I stopped and tried to think,

Like a bolt of lightning it hit me,
My memories fade in reverse,
Of my life in the concrete jungle,
And how it was a curse,

I began to remember,
Buildings overpowering the others,
Causing death by the thousands,
Even my own brothers,

My friend began to darken,
I fly away with pain and shame,
That once upon a time,
It was I they had to blame,

I flew lower to witness this tragedy,
To apologise for what I caused,
Then a frightening sound of silence,
Kept the whole world at a pause,

My eyesight vague and blurry,
Over me, the shadow of a gun,
I see two figures approach me,
One shadow had said,
"Heres another one son!"

My body cold and lifeless,
In the hand of a hunters boy,
My last thought was,
"Why do we treat this world as a toy"
