The crash was louder than I anticipated.
Someone screamed.
Another crash, another bfzzzz.
I stared at the tv in horror, trying to erase the images from my mind.
So many people were dying right in front of my eyes all over again.
"The battle of Manhattan was a devastating day." Mrs. Levi said, stopping the video and flipping the light switch. "We lost many lives of those we hold dear." A tear fell down her cheek.
Four years ago today the Battle of Manhattan took place. Mrs. Levi lost her husband to the fight.
I lost my brother.
He was the best anyone could ask for. When they found his body, I couldn't deal with anything anymore. I cut myself away from my friends and family.
It was a dark time. Not one I like to talk about.
"I'm sorry." Mrs. Levi wiped her tears away and sniffed. "We're just required to talk about it by administration."
We solemnly nodded our heads. Sniffles could be heard all around throughout the classroom.
Mrs. Levi stood a bit straighter. "Right. We wouldn't be here without the Avengers. They saved us in this horrible time."
Yeah, the Avengers. They weren't much of a team anymore. After Captain America went rouge, everything sort of fell apart.
The battle of Manhattan brought the people closer together. It unified us in a way.
The bell rang and I slung my backpack over my shoulder, sighing and wiping away tears of my own.
It's gonna be a long day.

Fourth period rolled around and I entered the classroom, sitting in my regular spot.
Michelle entered, Peter and Ned following closely behind.
"Sup, tiny." Michelle muttered in my direction before sitting down.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm only a few inches shorter than you."
She snorted and pulled out a different book.
Someone tapped my shoulder and I turned to face Peter. "Hey, did we get homework yesterday?" He asked.
I nodded. "Page 378-382."
"Thanks." He sat down and opened his book. He's never gonna get that done before the bell rings.
Ned caught my eye and I could tell he was thinking the same thing. I rolled my eyes at him and he nodded.
"Alright class. Get with your partners. Follow the directions in your books and don't forget to wear goggles."
Mr. H walked in and beckoned for us to start.
Michelle and I shared a table so we were partners. We opened our books and started to work on the lab.
Beep beep beep
I turned in my seat, looking at Peter. The sound of his watch was one I could easily remember.
He had a frantic look in his eyes. Ned looked over at him and whispered something to him. Peter nodded then stood up.
"Mr. H, I need to use the bathroom!"
The young teacher looked up from his phone and stared at him long and hard. "You'll have to wait."
Peter's face fell and he checked his watch again, "but-"
"I said no." Mr. H said in a voice that made him sound like a grumpy teenage boy.
Peter looked frantic, as if he was fighting internally against himself.
Finally he opened his mouth to speak but quickly shut it, pulling his lips into a thin line and hardening his gaze. The look on his face was one of determination.
What is he going to do?
Ned nudged Peter. He looked at him expectantly.
Peter took a deep breath. Then he took off his goggles and ran out of the class room.
Mr. H raised an eyebrow but didn't look back up from his phone, a sly smile appearing on his face. Then he stood. "Students, you'll have a substitute the rest of the hour. I have a-" he paused, "-family emergency to attend to."
With that, he left.
Something was up with Peter and something was up with Mr. H. Both had a mystery surrounding them; secrets they were trying to keep. And I intended to find out what.
